The Mount Ayr boy’s track team made the trip to Lenox on Monday, April 21 for what turned out to be their only meet of the week.
The Raiders competed in the 10-team Lenox co-ed, placing fifth with a team score of 84 points.
The Raiders were to compete at the West Central Valley Invitational on April 24, but poor weather canceled the meet.
Riverside won the meet with a team score of 142 points. Two other teams also topped the 100-point mark at the meet. They were runner-up Shenandoah with 125 points and third place Lenox with 106 points.
The Raiders had three event wins at the meet. Mount Ayr thrower Rowan Sackett won the shot put event, with a season best throw of 42-feet, 9 inches. The other two wins came from relay events in the 4×800-meter relay and the sprint medley relay.
The Raiders 4X800-meter relay team of Tegan Hill, Brock Shaha, Nathan Roemer, and Michael Adkisson won the event in a time of 9:25.91. That time was the second fastest run this season for the Raiders. The other relay event win was from its sprint medley relay team of Drayden Thompson, Tyler Martin, Garrett Walter, and Jackson Ruggles. The quartet ran to a season-best time for the Raiders at 1:36.98.
The Raiders placed in the top-3 in three other relay events. The 4X200-meter relay team of Garrett Walter, Tate Dugan, Dyson Thompson, and Jackson Ruggles were second in a time of 1:35.93. Mount Ayr placed third in the 4×100-meter relay with the team of Trevin Victor, Isac Dugan, Adler Reed, and Tyler Martin in 53.62. The Raiders also placed third in the 4X400-meter relay with the team of Walter, Bryson Martin, Thompson, and Ruggles in 3:36.14.
Garrett Walter grabbed the best 400-meter time run by Mount Ayr this season, placing third in the event in a time of 52.71. Other Raiders with top-10 finishes were Bryson Martin, Manny Hyde, Jackson Ruggles, Tegan Hill, Brock Shaha, Austin Briner, Braylon Greenwell, and Jeremiah Gilliland.
This week, the Raiders will have two meets to run in. The Raiders will host a large meet on Tuesday, April 29, before going to Van Meter two days later on May 1. The Raiders will compete on Monday at the 2025 Pride of Iowa Conference meet at Nodaway Valley.
