Paced by six relay event qualifiers and Willie Baker with four individual ambulatory event bids, the Mount Ayr Raider boy’s track team ended their season at the place where every track athlete hopes to, the state meet at Drake Stadium.
The Raiders were led by a ninth-place finish in the 4X200-meter relay quartet of Drayden Thompson, Trevin Victor, Garrett Walter, and Jackson Ruggles in a season-best time of 1:31.66.
Willie Baker qualified for the state meet in four ambulatory events. Baker placed in the top-5 in all four events. Baker qualified in the 100, 200, and 400-meter dash events as well as the ambulatory shot put.
The shot put was where Baker had his best results, placing as the runner-up in the event with a best throw of 29-feet, 8.5 inches. Baker had fourth-place finishes in the 100-meter dash in 16.05, 200-meter dash in 33.50, and 400-meter dash in 1:21.26.
The Raiders 4X400-meter relay team of Jackson Ruggles, Drayden Thompson, Garrett Walter, and Adan Trujillo placed 16th in a season-best time of 3:29.79. The other season’s best time for the Raiders was from its shuttle hurdle relay team’s 23rd place finish in a time of 1:05.16 with the team of Manny Hyde, Adler Reed, Isac Dugan, and Jackson Ruggles.
Lisbon won the Class 1A boy’s state title with a team score of 54 points, followed by AC/GC in second with 44 points, and South Hamilton in third with 35 points.
Lenox was the top Pride of Iowa Conference school to finish, tying for ninth place with 28 points.
