The Mount Ayr girl’s track and field team had a pair of top-5 finishers in individual events to lead the way at the 2025 Class 1A state track and field meet.
Mount Ayr had six events qualify for the state meet this season.
High jumper Aubree Shields would collect the top finish for Mount Ayr at the state meet. Shields would place third in the high jump with a best jump of 5-feet, 2-inches.
The Reynolds name for Mount Ayr is synonymous with success at the state track and field meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. This year, freshman Emma Reynolds captured the top finish for Mount Ayr at the 2025 Class 1A state meet. Reynolds placed fifth in the finals of the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.11. Reynolds set a new personal best time in the event.
The Raiderettes had another individual competing at state in the 400-meter dash. There, Tatum Friedrich placed 23rd in a time of 1:04.29.
Mount Ayr had four relay events qualify for the state meet in their sprint medley, 4X100, 4X400, and 4X800-meter relay teams. All four would turn in season-best times in their respective events on their state times.
The best finish by Mount Ayr was a pair of sixth-place finishes by their sprint medley and their 4X100 relays. The Raiderettes 4X100-meter relay team of Brittlyn Nickle, Emma Reynolds, Jaxy Knight, and Aubree Shields set a new season best time in their sixth place finish in 50.66. The relay qualified for the finals of the 4X100 with an 8th-place finish in the prelims. Mount Ayr’s sprint medley relay team of Brittlyn Nickle, Jaxy Knight, Aubree Shields, and Emma Reynolds ran to a sixth place finish in a season best time of 1:51.75.
Mount Ayr’s 4X400-meter relay team of Tatum Friedrich, Ashlyn Murphy, Aubree Shields, and Emma Reynolds placed 11th in a season-best time of 4:10.49. Also running to a season-best time of 10:39.67 was the Raiderettes 4×800-meter relay team of Tatum Friedrich, Kate Newton, Ava England, and Addison Doolittle.
Council Bluffs St. Albert won the Class 1A team title with a score of 46 points. The Saints won the Class 1A state basketball title this past winter. Saint Ansgar was the runner-up team with a score of 40, and Fort Dodge St. Edmond and Nashua-Plainfield tied for third place with 36 points. Martensdale-St. Mary’s tied for 18th with 14 points and was the top POI team to place in the 1A team standings.
