The Mount Ayr Raiders began their 2025 season last week with three conference games.
Games against East Union, Nodaway Valley, and SE Warren were the three contests.
The results were a 7-0 win over East Union and a 10-0 win over Nodaway Valley. The Raiders lost to SE Warren 5-1.
The total sum of the games set the Raiders’ record at 2-1 through three games.
The Raiders hosted East Union on Monday and were at Central Decatur on Tuesday. The Raiders had end-of-the-week games at Clarke on Thursday and at home against Lenox on Friday. The Raiders begin the next week at Murray on June 9.
The week started for the Raiders with a game at East Union. The Raiders got a big inning in the top of the third to take control of the game in a 7-0 win.
The Raiders and Eagles were tied at 0-0 after two innings. In the top of the third, the Raiders scored six runs to take control of the game. Another run came in the top of the fifth to get the score to 7-0.
Mount Ayr had 12 hits in the game, led by Rowan Sackett, Jaxsen Walter, and Trevin Victor with two hits each. Tate Dugan led Mount Ayr with 2 RBI’s.
The Raiders stole seven bases in the game.
Jaxsen Walter started and was the winning pitcher after five innings of work. Walter struck out four and walked three. Hayes Stogdill pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
East Union had five hits in the game. Braden Kelley led with a 2-for-3 night. Other East Union hits came from Jensen Waigand, Aiden Denton, and Omar Lara. Fischer Buffington, Terrain Islas, Ty Tallmon, and Trevor Fry all reached base via a walk.
Paul McNeill started and took the loss after two and a third innings. Braden Kelley and Buffington each pitched in relief. East Union pitchers struck out seven Raiders in the game.
The Raiders won their second game in a row, beating Nodaway Valley 10-0 in six innings on Thursday, May 29.
The Raiders led 2-0 after the second inning and 3-0 after three innings. Mount Ayr took control of the game with a four-run fourth to extend their lead to 7-0.
Trevin Victor spun a gem of a game, a 1-hitter to go with nine strikeouts and four walks over six innings.
Mount Ayr had nine hits in the game, led by Rowan Sackett, who was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI’s. The Raiders got a pair of hits each from their No. 8 and No. 9 hitters in the order in Avery Wolfe and Trevin Victor. Victor had a home run and 3 RBI’s and Wolfe had an RBI.
Also with hits were Hayes Stogdill and Tate Dugan. Jaxsen Walter and Tyler Still also had RBI’s in the game.
The week ended with a 5-1 loss at SE Warren. The Warhawks are picked to finish high in the POI standings this year. The two teams will play again on June 19.
The game was very close through the fourth inning, with the score knotted at zero. The Raiders scored first with a run in the top of the fifth for a 1-0 lead.
The Warhawks then took control of the game with a five-run fifth to claim the game.
The win was the second in a row and third in the last four meetings for SE Warren over Mount Ayr.
Mount Ayr had four hits in the game, led by Rowan Sackett, who was 2-for-3 with a double. Avery Wolfe and Adler Reed had the other hits for Mount Ayr.
Wolfe reached base on two walks while Hayes Stogdill, Drew Graham each had a walk.
Adler Reed started and took the loss after going four and two-thirds innings. He struck out three and walked eight. Rowan Sackett pitched the final inning and a third.
