Ernest Andrew Barlow, son of Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Barlow of Diagonal, will graduate June 12 from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. Ernest is a member of a class which at the beginning of the first, or plebe year, numbered 400 and which has dwindled by reason of failure and other causes until at the close of the fourth year numbers only 247.
Oral Miller of the Ellston vicinity was arrested Monday morning and arraigned before G.A. Tennant, justice of the peace at Mount Ayr charged with manufacturing intoxicating liquor in violation of law, bootlegging and transportation of intoxicating liquor in violation of the law.
Last Saturday John Sinco sold seven hogs weighing 2290 pounds, bringing him the sum of $163.77. The average weight of each hog was a trifle over 327 pounds.
George Blake with his Airdale and smoker, accompanied by the Nevill, Bush, and Bailey boys had a rat killing bee at the Boyd Nevill, E.M. Gard and Lawrence Bush farms on Wednesday after the storm. What they didn’t kill they made hard to catch.

The new West End Market, located west of Mount Ayr on Hwys 2 & 169, will open for business Friday, according to announcement by the proprietors, Leo Hacker and Nick Duros. The store will handle a complete line of well known brands of groceries, fresh fruits, and vegetables, meats, ice cream and ice house service.
The new commmander of Ringgold Post #172 American Legion is Owen Campbell, who was elected to that position Monday evening at the regular meeting. Mr. Campbell succeeds Linn Sheil, who headed the organization during the past year.
Crown Point News~ Harold and Dean Frost are recovering from the mumps.

Wednesday June 18 is circus day, the arrival of America’s largest tent circus takes place as the big Carson and Barnes five-ring circus arrives at day break for two performances at the Ringgold county fair grounds under the sponsorship of the Mount Ayr Jaycees.
The Regular Baptist Church of Mount Ayr will appear on “Church of the Air” series on Sunday June 15. The program is a weekly feature on TV8-KCCI-TV of Des Moines.

A new asphalt surface has been added to the Ringgold Trailway, the trail that follows the old railroad bed from the east edge of Mount Ayr to Poe Hollow Park east of town. Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the new surface, but bicycling, skate boarding, roller blading and hiking are encouraged on the pathway.
The new Mount Ayr Medical Clinic building which is attached to the Ringgold County Hospital’s southwest side, is taking shape but will be a month late in being completed.
Matthew Dean Pettit was one of the 491 undergraduate students who completed requirements for baccalaureate degrees at the conclusion of the 2000 spring trimester. Pettit graduated with a bachelor of science degree in Journalism/English writing.
Tara Groves and Jared Trullinger were among UNI graduates. Some 1,300 new alumni were added to the roster of the University of Northern Iowa during two commencement ceremonies held May 6.
Tara Groves of Mount Ayr received a bachelor of arts degree with a major in pyscology. Jared Trullinger of Mount Ayr graduated with high honors and received a bachelor of arts degree with a major in earth science.

A recent Mount Ayr graduate is headed back to Wyoming to compete in the National Rodeo Finals. Riley Weehler won the state championship in two events at the state rodeo finals held last week. Weehler placed first in the tie down calf roping competion and partnered with Payden Dawson of Maryville, MO., to capture the team roping crown.
The former Kate Crawford of Tingley believed in the value of aging at home. She left her estate to Ringgold County Public Health with specific instructions to “help people remain in their homes.” Becky Fletchall, Nurse Administrator, shares “This generous contribution has helped 23 people with the cost of privately paid home health care services.
