SHENANDOAH – The Mount Ayr volleyball team picked up two more wins last Saturday, September 13 at the Shenandoah volleyball tournament. Mount Ayr went 2-2 in four matches at the event. The Raiderettes beat Bedford, Shenandoah, and fell to Fremont-Mills and Missouri Valley. Mount Ayr saw their win total for the week go to six and their overall record improved to 11-6.
Against Bedford, Mount Ayr won 2-0 by scores of 21-19 and 21-14. Mount Ayr had 20 kills from 51 attacks. Aubree Shields and Izzy Gilbertson tied for the lead with nine each. Jaylee Shaffer had 14 assists. Shields led in digs with 10 and Emma Reynolds added nine. The Raiderettes served 34-for-41 with five aces. Shields led, going seven-for-nine with two aces.
Against Shenandoah, Mount Ayr won 2-1 in three sets by scores of 27-25, 15-21 and 15-6. Mount Ayr had 21 kills off of 66 attacks. Aubree Shields led with 12 kills on 33 attacks and Izzy Gilbertson had seven kills on 17 attacks. Jaylee Shaffer had 15 assists. Shields had 20 digs and led Mount Ayr in serving in the match, going 13-for-13.
Against Missouri Valley, Mount Ayr fell 2-0 by scores of 21-19 and 21-18 in a close match. Mount Ayr had 16 kills led by Shields and Gilbertson with seven kills each. Jaylee Shaffer had 12 assists and Shields had 13 digs. Mount Ayr served 35-for-39 with three aces. Shields led, going 10-for-11 with an ace.
Against Fremont-Mills, the Raiderettes took on the No. 8 team in Class 1A. Mount Ayr fell 2-0 by scores of 21-16 and 21-14. Aubree Shields had 10 kills to lead Mount Ayr and Jaylee Shaffer had 16 assists. Dannie Stewart had a team high 9 digs. As a team, Mount Ayr served 30-for-30 with an ace. Shields led, going 8-for-8.
