Pair of poi wins sets up big week for Raidettes

MOUNT AYR – After a pair of conference match wins last Tuesday, the Mount Ayr volleyball team will have a chance to win the 2025 POI regular season title this week.
The Raiderettes are currently tied with SE Warren at 6-0 in the conference with a pair of POI matches including one against each other. The two teams will play in Liberty Center this week along with Nodaway Valley to finish the conference triangular part of the season schedule. The Warhawks are ranked No. 12 in Class 1A while Nodaway Valley comes in with nine match wins after not having any last year. Mount Ayr has an overall record of 21-9 while SE Warren is 27-3.
Against Lenox, the Raiderettes beat the Tigers for the second time this season, by a score of 2-0. Mount Ayr won the first set 25-12 and 25-10.
Mount Ayr had 46 attacks with 28 kills. Aubree Shields had 26 attacks and 16 kills and Izzy Gilbertson had nine attacks and seven kills. Jaylee Shaffer had 23 assists in the match.
The Raiderettes had 35 digs as a team with Dannie Stewart having 14, while Abby Larson had nine digs. The Raiders served 44-for-50 with six aces. Abby Larson led going 18-for-18 and Jaylee Shaffer was 12-for-12 with three aces.
Lenox had 45 attacks and five kills in the match led by Morgan Browkaw with 14 attacks and Genesis Wimer who had 12 attacks and a kill. The Tigers served 19-for-23 with three aces in the match. Reese Reed led, going 6-for-8 with two aces.
Against Martensdale-St. Marys, the Raiderettes won 2-0 by twin scores of 25-14. Mount Ayr had 38 attacks with 19 kills in the match. Shields had 20 attacks and 10 kills while Gilbertson had eight attacks and four kills. Shaffer had 15 assists and Stewart had nine digs. Mount Ayr served 41-for-50 with six aces as a team. Shields led going 9-for-12 with two aces. Larson was 10-for-10 with an ace and Shaffer was 8-for-10 with an ace.
The Raiderettes played at the Bedford Tournament last Saturday and played in five matches, winning four to go 4-1 at the event.
Mount Ayr beat Mid-Buchanan 2-1 by scores of 21-18, 12-21 and 15-13. Mount Ayr beat Stanton 2-1 by scores of 17-21, 21-13 and 15-7. The Raiderettes beat Bedford 2-0 by scores of 21-8 and 21-14. Mount Ayr beat Lamoni 2-0 by scores of 21-9 and 21-13. The Raiderettes only loss came to East Mills, 2-0 by scores of 21-14 and 21-11.
