CORNING, Iowa — The Raiderettes placed seventh during their first wrestling meet of the season at 3rd Annual Southwest Valley Girl’s wrestling Tournament last Saturday in Corning.
The results placed Mount Ayr nearly smack dab in the middle of the 15 teams who competed.
Coach Mitch Doolittle, in his first year of being coach, was feeling proud of where his team placed and how the girls fared at the first meet of the year.
“Man these girls draw blood and they bite, they’re ready to go for it.” he said.
The Raideretts went 7-14 in live matches, with all seven wins being by falls.
Alyssa Doolittle, wrestling at 105 Pounds, went 2-1 and placed second in her weight bracket. Addison Doolittle wrestling at 135 pounds went 2-2 and placed fourth at her weight. Adalynn Dredge wrestling at 140 pounds went 2-2 and placed fourth in her weight bracket. Taryn Dredge wrestling at 140 pounds went 1-3 and placed fourth in her weight.
“We’re showing a little immaturity but then we’re showing that we’ve learned things… because they’re working hard and they’re brought into the program and they’re ready to go.” Mitch Doolittle said.
Addison Doolittle was excited to see the things she was working on in practice paid off on the mat.
“It felt really good for a second match after just losing, it was really nice to focus on what we’ve worked on in practice.” she said.
The Raiderettes will be back on the mat when they host the Mount Ayr 4-team on December 8.
