Mount Ayr has gotten off to a perfect 3-0 start to the season with every victory being a double-digit win.
After winning their opening game of the season by 73 points, the Raiderettes faced a little stiffer competition last week, but still won handily.
Last Tuesday, Mount Ayr had its toughest game of the young season as they defeated host Nodaway Valley 58-48 in Greenfield.
Mount Ayr jumped out front early leading 18-11 after the opening quarter. The lead would grow to a 30-21 by halftime.
The Wolverines would eat into the Mount Ayr lead midway through the third quarter at one point pulling even. The Raiderettes would hold on and pull away late for the 10-point victory.
Izzy Gilbertson paced Mount Ayr with a double-double as the junior scored 21 points and pulled down 17 rebounds while also having two blocks. MaKel Jones also scored in double figures for the Raiderettes with 10 points on 50 percent shooting and sophomore Emma Reynolds chipped in nine points.
Dannie Stewart had seven rebounds and seven assists. Kacie Larsen had six rebounds and Reynolds handed out five assists.
Last Friday the Raiderettes stayed on the road and defeated the No. 9 Class 1 Martensdale-St. Mary’s 61-37 in Martensdale.
Gilbertson once again led the Mount Ayr attack recording another double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, both game-highs. Junior Jaylee Shaffer had 16 points and five assists, while Reynolds also reached double figures with 10 points to go along with six assists, six rebounds and five steals. Keely Wasteney added eight rebounds.
Mount Ayr hosted Southwest Valley on Tuesday (results were not available as of press time). The Raiderettes travel to Bedford on Thursday and host Southeast Warren on Friday.
