Raiderettes crack state rankings

CORYDON, Iowa — For the first time this season the Mount Ayr has cracked the statewide rankings as the No. 15 team in Class 2A. The Raiderettes backed the ranking up with a 60-29 victory at Wayne last Tuesday.
“It’s nice to be recognized, but we got a lot more work to do,” Mount Ayr coach Thad Streit said. “We want to finish at the state tournament. So we want to be finishing in the top eight…. We’re not going to think too much of it. Our heads are staying level.”
Against the Falcons, Mount Ayr led wire-to-wire jumping out to a 15-4 first-quarter lead. Wayne would cut into the lead in the second quarter as the outscored the Raiderettes 11-6. Mount Ayr went into halftime with a 21-15 lead.
Coming out of the break the Raiderettes would nearly double their first-half scoring by pouring in 20 points in the third quarter as the Falcons could not keep pace. Mount Ayr closed the game strong with a 19-3 fourth quarter for the 31-point win.
Izzy Gilbertson put up yet another double double scoring 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. The junior also had seven blocks, five steals and four assists.
Dannie Stewart also had a great game with 14 points and five assists. Emma Reynolds scored six points and had four rebounds. Jaylee Shafffer had five assists.

East Union 19
The Raiderettes remained unbeaten as they soundly defeated East Union 67-19 last Thursday in Afton.
Mount Ayr jumped out to an 18-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Raiderettes scored in doubled digits in every quarter except the fourth, while holding the Eagles to single digits scoring in each quarter.
Izzy Gilbertson outscored the Eagles by herself leading the team with 21 points. The junior also had four steals, four assists and three blocks. Emma Reynolds and 13 points, while Dannie Stewart had 12 points and a team high five rebounds and four steals. Jaylee Shaffer had five assists.
