MOUNT AYR, Iowa — Mount Ayr head girl’s basketball coach Thad Streit was named the Class 2A Southwest Iowa Coach of the Year. Streit’s Mount Ayr team went 15-1 and defended their Pride of Iowa Conference league crown this year. The Raiderettes shared the 2025-26 title with Nodaway Valley. Both teams were near the top of the POI this season with each winning on the other’s home court. Both Nodaway Valley and Mount Ayr were ranked this year, with the Raiderettes being ranked longer. Mount Ayr was 20-2 overall this season.
A pair of Mount Ayr players were named to the All-District team for Southwest Iowa in junior forward Izzy Gilbertson and junior guard Dannie Stewart. Gilbertson was second in the district in scoring with 457 points and a 20.8-point scoring average. Gilbertson also averaged 9.2 points and 4.0 blocked shots a game this year. Stewart averaged 12.2 points per game, 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.4 steals a game.
