Raiderettes capture second place at NW Missouri State Indoor

By Ryan Stonebraker

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Paced by three event wins and a pair of runner-up finishes, the Mount Ayr girl’s track and field team captured second place at the Northwest Missouri State indoor kickoff last Saturday. The Raiderettes, already with a high finish in one indoor meet, added a follow-up act in Maryville, Mo. to what is shaping up to be quite possibly being a special spring. Mount Ayr will be back on the track on March 31 when they travel to the Earlham Early Bird which is followed up a few days later at the Griswold Relays on April 2.
Mount Ayr’s Emma Reynolds won two events at the meet, the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash. Reynolds won the 200-meter dash in 26.69, which isn’t even her season best, but she does have the second best time in Class 1A and the 13th best time in the event in any class. Reynolds won the 400-meter dash in 59.62. That time was a new season best by 0.15 seconds and that is the second fastest time in Class 1A and 13th in all classes.
The other event win came from Aubree Shields who won the high jump with a top jump with a height of 5-feet, 5 inches.
Mount Ayr had runner-up finishes in the shot put and the 4×400-meter relay.
Emily Knox was second in the shot put with a throw of 35-feet, 0.5 inches. Teammate Payton Worthington placed third in the event with a best throw of 33-feet, 8 inches. Mount Ayr’s 4×400-meter relay team of Shields, Tatum Friedrich, Kate Newton and Reynolds were runners-up in a time of 4:14.61.
Other top-10 finishes came from Chloe Robb in the 200-meter dash, Shields in the 400-meter dash, Addison Doolittle and Ryley Greenwell in the 800-meter and 1,600-meter run events and Ashlyn Byer in the 3,200-meter run. Mount Ayr also had top-10 relay finishes in the distance and sprint medley relay events.
Treynor won the meet with a team score of 108 points, while Mount Ayr was the runner-up with 72 points. Clarinda placed third with 51 points and Maryville was fourth with 47 points. POI schools Nodaway Valley and Lenox also were at the meet, but both placed outside of the top-10 finishing teams.
