Raiderettes take Lenox Championship

LENOX, Iowa – Last week began with a bang for the Mount Ayr girl’s track team as the Raiderettes won a 12-team Lenox co-ed meet last Monday. Mount Ayr dominated the meet, scoring 142 points and winning seven events to win the team title. Shenandoah was a distant second place with 103 points.
Other Pride of Iowa Conference teams at the meet were Lenox, Southwest Valley and East Union. Mount Ayr will be back in action this week, when they host a big meet on Tuesday, April 28 (results were not available as of press time) before running at Van Meter on Thursday, April 30.
Mount Ayr had a win in the field events as Emily Knox won the shot put with a top throw of 36-feet, 11.50-inches. Payton Worthington placed fourth in the same event.
In individual events on the track, the Raiderettes had three wins. Emma Reynolds won the 200-meter dash in 26.10. Addison Doolittle won the 3,000-meter run in a time of 12:49.04. Aubree Shields also won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.92.
Other top-5 finishers were many as Doolittle had a runner-up finish in the 1,500-meter run and Kate Newton also was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash. Brittlyn Nickle had a pair of fourth place finishes in the 100 and 200-meter dash events. Kacie Larson and Ryley Greenwell had third and fourth place finishes in the 800-meter run.
Mount Ayr won three relays at the meet. The Raiderettes won the sprint medley relay with the team of Chloe Robb, Newton, Shields and Reynolds in a time of 1:53.98.
The Raiderettes won the distance medley relay event with the team of Robb, Shields, Reynolds and Tatum Friedrich in a time of 4:25.62. The other relay win came from the 4×400-meter relay team of Friedrich, Newton, Shields and Reynolds as they crossed the finish line in a time of 4:12.91.
