LEON, Iowa — The Mount Ayr girl’s track and field team found itself in a tight team race in their final regular season meet last week. The Raiderettes placed fourth with a team score of 90 points in the 10 team event with only 8.5 points separated three teams for second place. Of the 10 teams, six were from the Pride of Iowa Conference. Wayne won the meet with a team score of 102 points followed by runner-up Creston with 98.5 points. Chariton was third with 94 points and Mount Ayr fourth with 94 points.
Mount Ayr won five events at the meet.
In field events, Emily Knox won the shot put with a top throw of 34-11.5. Aubree Shields won the high jump with a top jump of 5-6. Emma Reynolds won the 200-meter dash in 25.83. The other two wins were from Mount Ayr’s 4×400-meter and sprint medley relays.
The 4×400 team of Tatum Friedrich, Kate Newton, Shields and Reynolds were first in a time of 4:10.03.  The sprint medley relay team of Chloe Robb, Brittlyn Nickle, Shields and Reynolds were first in 1:50.76.
