Mount Ayr Quad
The Raiders hosted a wrestling quad Tuesday, January 19 with Southwest Valley, Van Meter and Bedford-Lenox.
The Raiders were only able to get one team win, defeating Southwest Valley, but Bryce Shaha had a decent outing, setting a new school record for takedowns, beating Hans Larsons record of 301, set in 2003-2006, with 310 to his name at the time of writing.
The Raiders were narrowly defeated by Bedford-Lenox, losing 43-42.
In that loss, the Raiders saw pins from Trae Ehlen, Jaydon Knight, Keaton White, Drew Ehlen and Bryce Shaha.
Bedford got wins over Braydon Swietlik, Jarrett Webb and Payton Fleharty.
Mount Ayr’s lone victory of the night came against Southwest Valley, winning 45-30.
The Raiders got pins from Bryce Shaha and Trae Ehlen.
Other wins from Mount Ayr came from Drew Ehlen with a 4-2 decision.
Braydon Swietlik and Deann Wyant both lost out to their opponents.
Van Meter-Earlham got the win over the Raiders by a 43-33 win.
Mount Ayr had pins by Bryce Shaha, Payton Fleharty, Jaydon Knight, Keaton White and Drew Ehlen.
Trae Ehlen was able to get a victory over Jackson Boese by a 13-6 decision.
Against Van Meter, Mount Ayr’s Preston Fleharty was severly injured after coming down on his head.
Fleharty was taken to the hospital where they were able to release him the following day with full range of motion and is expected to fully recover after what was a scary incident.
The Bedford-Lenox team also went over to the Mount Ayr wrestlers to offer their condolences and well wishes to Fleharty’s brother, Payton.
John J Harris Tournament
The Raiders traveled to Corning for the John J Harris tournament.
Bryce Shaha had yet another great outing, becoming the first four-time champion since Creston’s Chase Shiltz.
Shaha received a bye in the first round but was able to get wins against Michael Mayer of Clarinda, Devin Adams of Central Decatur and Triston Barncastle of Creston-Orient-Macksburg for the top spot of the podium.
Drew Ehlen saw a win over Mizael Gomez before falling to Tean Slaybaugh by a 10-6 decision.
In the consolation, Ehlen overcame Kasen Cochran of Winterset and took third place over Kaden Whipp of Clarinda.
Jarrett Webb took fifth place after a win over Gabe Johnson before falling to John Schroder and Brandon Erp.
Webb took fifth after defeating Cruz Weaver 10-7.
Payton Fleharty defeated Trent Terrell but fell to Garon Wurster and Jaxon Christensen to end his day.
Trae Ehlen got a win over Evan Timmerman before falling to Logan Jones due to an injury default.
Jaydon Knight defeated Jack Gordon but became sick and had to pull out of the tournament.
Keaton White fell to Ethan Reicks and Braydon Swietlik lost out to Brok Comstock to round out the tournament for Mount Ayr.
