Mount Ayr track second at POI meet

The Pride of Iowa Championship meet was held in Leon Monday night, May 3 as the track season begins to wind down.
The Raiders and Raiderettes both placed second overall after tough competition saw things down to the wire.
In the girls meet, Wayne went home champions, while in the boys meet Central Decatur edged out the Raiders by three points.
Raiderette Results
The top three throughout the night was Wayne (165.5), Mount Ayr (140.5) and Nodaway Valley (105).
Fourth through 10th began with Central Decatur, Lenox, Martensdale-St. Mary’s, Southwest Valley, East Union, Bedford and Southeast Warren.
Addy Reynolds led the team with a whopping 32 points, followed by Payten Lambert with 19, MaKayla Jones with 18.25, Karly Elwood with 14.75 and Zoey Larsen with 10, to round out the double digit scorers for Mount Ayr.
Reynolds took home the gold in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash and 400 meter dash.
Reynolds had competition throughout the night in her winning events, with the 200 meter being the closest.
A classic photo finish showed Reynolds beat out Maddax DeVault by .01 seconds after posting a time of 26.63, while DeVault posted a time of 26.64.
Reynolds and Lambert were a good one-two punch for Mount Ayr with Lambert adding points in the 100 with a third place finish, the 200 and 400 meters with fifth place finishes in both.
MaKayla Jones found success in the endurance portion of the night, winning the 3000 meter run and fourth in the 1500 meter run.
In field events, Zoey Larsen placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 86-05, while Hope Whittington placed sixth with a throw of 84-09.
In the high jump, Karly Elwood cleared 4-04 and in the long jump Payten Lambert jumped a distance of 15-04.25.
In the shot put, Zoey Larsen placed fourth with a throw of 29-09.5 and Hope Whittington saw sixth with a 28-10.5 throw.

Raiders Results
Three points separated first and second in last nights Pride of Iowa Championship meet in the male division.
Ryce Reynolds led the charge for the second place Raiders with 19.5 points, while Briar Knapp added 19 of his own.
Adler Shay scored 17.5 and Trae Ehlen added 15.5 while Erik Trujillo tossed in 14.
Seth Shelman had 13.5 points on the night while Cody and Rhett Larson each added 11 to round out double digit points for the Raiders.
The Central Decatur Cardinals took first place with 150 points while Lenox scored 88 to place third.
East Union, Martensdale-St. Mary’s, Bedford, Nodaway Valley, Southwest Valley, Southeast Warren and Wayne rounded out the rest of the field.
Reynolds saw wins in the 400 meter and as the anchor of the winning 4×400 and placed second as the anchor in the 800-sprint medley that included Seth Shelman, Dawson Swank and Payton Weehler.
The Raider 1600 distance medley team of Austin Cole, Payton Weehler, Adler Shay and Trae Ehlen took home a gold over Central Decatur as well.
Briar Knapp finished well ahead of the pack in the 400 meter hurdle to add another win to his belt with a time of 59.93.
Adler Shay and Trae Ehlen finished first and second, respectively, in the 800 meter run to bring home 18 points.
“We had outstanding performances from people tonight, we stepped up big,” said coach Brad Elliott. “Adalyn Reynolds on the girls side has been very strong in those individual events and you can’t discount Payten Lambert for the one-two punch that those two provide for us in the sprints.”
“On the boys side, the major duty that Cody Larson had to do. It’s pretty unthought of to have someone do both throwing events and the high jump and placed in all three. On the track, we are doing faster times.”
The Raiders placed second overall, but coach Elliott sees room to be even better.
“Our main thing is hand-offs,” said coach Elliott. “Fine tuning exchanged for the sprint relays, especially.”
The Raiders have one meet left on the schedule, May 10 in Leon before the May 13 district meet in Mount Ayr where they will attempt to qualify for the State Meet May 20-22.
