Winterset Lady Husky Relays
The Raiderettes headed north to compete in the Winterset Lady Husky Invitational April 26. The Raiderettes competed against the likes of Norwalk, Winterset, Carlisle and Des Moines Roosevelt. Those teams made up the top four, while the Raiderettes finished fifth overall, leading Interstate-35 and Lincoln High School.
With 62 points, the Raiderettes were led by Hope Whittington who scored 10 total points, while Kaylie Shields and MaKenna Jones scored eight and a half and eight points, respectively.
Whittington landed second overall in the discus with a throw of 93-10 and Jill Kniep took third with a throw of 89-03.
MaKenna Jones finished third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:07.74.
Kaylie Shields finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 14.5 cleared.
In the relays, the Raiderettes saw a second place finish in the 4×200 with runners, Payten Lambert, Karly Elwood, Madalynn Stewart and Adalyn Reynolds.
The 800-sprint medley team of Kaylie Shields, Madalynn Stewart, Payten Lambert and Adalyn Reynolds took first place by two seconds with a time of 1:57.28.
Raider Relays
The Raiders hosted their own relays last Tuesday and came away with a very narrow win during a special meet. Last year would have marked the 100th anniversary of Mount Ayr Track & Field, however, due to COVID-19 it was canceled. A century team was announced but was not able to be honored, until Tuesday night. A few members of that team were in attendance including Eugene Ricker, Kyle Dolecheck, Brent Geringer and Braydee Poore.
The meet went back and forth between Mount Ayr and Earlham and came down to the Chet Roed 4×400. The final event of the night. The Raider team of Erik Trujillo, Trae Ehlen, Adler Shay and Ryce Reynolds beat out Earlham by four seconds to take the meet by tie breaker and win by one point.
Mount Ayr saw multiple double digit point scorers with Ryce Reynolds and Briar Knapp each scoring 19 points, Erik Trujillo scoring 15, Seth Shelman with 14, Cody Larson with 13 and Trae Ehlen with 11.
The Raiders didn’t take first in a lot of events, but consistency and finishing high in the points was the story for Mount Ayr to take the win.
Events won by the Raiders was Ryce Reynolds in the 400 meter, Briar Knapp in the 400 meter hurdles, Cody Larson in the high jump, 4×400 relay, 4×800 relay and the 800-sprint medley.
Van Meter – Dave Tapps Invite
The Raiders and Raiderettes got back into co-ed action last Thursday in Van Meter at the 2021 Dave Tapps Invite.
The Raiderettes finished third overall, behind Van Meter in first and Clarinda in second. Van Meter had a big lead of 155 points, followed by Clarinda’s 113 and Mount Ayr’s 101.
Along with the third place finish, the Raiderettes saw Adalyn Reynolds break a 44 year old record in the 200 meter dash, previously held by Jean Irving.
Reynolds led the Raiderettes in points with 28, and narrowly edged out Van Meter’s Eden Moore in the 200 meter dash. Reynolds ran a 26.58, while Moore ran a 26.67.
Moore bested Reynolds in the 100 meter dash, however, by .03 seconds. Moore finished in a time of 12.93, while Reynolds crossed the line in 12.96. Reynolds time put her second on the MACS All-Time list and her first place finish in the 400 with a time of 1:00.59 saw her move into third on the MACS All-Time list.
Payten Lambert placed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:06.3 and Karlie Larsen placed fifth with at time of 2:55.62 in the 800 meter run.
In field events, Karly Elwood finished fourth, clearing 4-06, while Zoey Larsen finished fourth overall in the shot put with a throw of 30-08.5. Hope Whittington finished fifth overall with a throw of 30-06.
Raiders results
The Raiders finished sixth overall in Van Meter at the Dave Tapps Invite.
Mount Ayr was led by Seth Shelman who scored 14 points, the only Raider in double digits.
Trae Ehlen, Erik Trujillo and Briar Knapp each had 8.5.
The Raiders sat in sixth with 76 points at the end of the night, while Earlham saw a little redemption with a fifth place finish with 88.5 points.
Madrid, Clarinda and Van Meter rounded out the top three, while CAM finished the night in fourth.
Sitting behind Mount Ayr was Central Decatur, Martensdale-St. Mary’s, Creston and Ankeny Christian.
Mount Ayr and Earlham battled in the 4×400 at the end of the night, with Earlham coming out on top with a 3:31.07, while Mount Ayr ran a 3:31.98.
The Raiders were unable to bring home gold in this meet, but brought home a few bronze and silvers.
In the 100 meter dash, Seth Shelman finished third with a time of 11.64. Shelman also saw a third place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.13.
The 4×800 team of Trae Ehlen, Bryce Shaha, Erik Trujillo and Adler Shay finished third with a time of 8:36.87.
Another bronze for the Raiders came in the 800-sprint medley team of Austin Cole, Seth Shelman, Ryce Reynolds and Payton Weehler. They finished in a time of 1:41.90, just .83 behind Van Meter and 2.05 off the winning Martensdale-St. Mary’s team.
Monday night, the Raiders stayed close to home, heading to Leon for the Pride of Iowa meet.
