Raiders humbled in weekend tournament losses

The Raiders continued to win throughout the week until heading to Martensdale Saturday for a triangular with the Blue Devils and Interstate-35 Roadrunners where they dropped two, ending the week with a regular season record of 8-2.
Mount Ayr 10, Nodaway Valley 3
The Raiders traveled to Greenfield on Tuesday, June 8 where they were able to defeat the Wolverines 10-3.
Opening the contest strong, the Raiders put up seven runs, while allowing three to Nodaway Valley.
Three more runs would see the Raiders up 10-3 where they closed out the contest.
Starting on the mound for the Raiders was Jaydon Knight. Knight pitched four innings, giving up three runs off one hit while walking three and strikingout 12.
Jaixen Frost relieved Knight after four innings and closed the night out allowing one hit and striking out four.
The Raider bats recorded 10 runs off 10 hits to win the game.

Mount Ayr 16, Wayne 1
The Raiders continued to win, hosting the Wayne Falcons on Friday, defeating them 16-1 after three innings.
Mount Ayr scored 11 in the first inning, while allowing one to the Falcons.
The second inning saw no runs, but the Raiders were able to put the game away in the third, adding five more runs.
Jace Grose started on the mound for the Raiders, allowing one run off one hit and striking out two.
Dawson Swank came in to pitch after three innings and after 13 pitches, the Raiders had won.
At the plate, the Raiders saw two home runs, both from Jaixen Frost which accounted for five RBI.

The Raiders hopped on a bus and traveled to Martensdale for a contest against the Blue Devils and Roadrunners.
First up was the Blue Devils. This game saw both score three in the first before the Blue Devils added two in the second and one more in the sixth to win the contest 6-3.
Jaydon Knight took to the mound and after 2.2 innings, allowed five runs on six hits with one strikeout. Dawson Swank came in and was unable to get the save, allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout.
The bats recorded seven hits and three runs while walking once and striking out 11 times.
The loss was the Raiders first since the first game of the season to Clarke.

The second game of the day for Mount Ayr saw quite the game against the Roadrunners.
Mount Ayr led after four 5-1, but the Roadrunners were able to rally back to score five with a walk-off run in the seventh.
Briar Knapp pitched 4.1 innings, allowing three runs off five hits and striking out five, while Jaixen Frost received the loss on the day after two innings, allowing three runs and striking out three.
The Raiders recorded six hits, five runs and struck out six times.
“Those are two good teams and really wish we could’ve held on to the I-35 game,” said coach Chris Elwood. “In baseball you’re going to have some losses that’s just the way it goes and there is no shame in losing to those two teams.”

The Raiders traveled to Mormon Trail to face the Saints in Monday night action.
The Saints took the Raiders the distance, ultimately falling to Mount Ayr 10-1.
Jace Grose was on the mound for the Raiders for three innings and 41 pitches, allowing two hits, one walk and striking out three.
Sophomore Daron Drake received the win in the contest, pitching four innings in his first ever varsity appearance in which he struck out five batters, walked three and allowed one run on one hit.
The Raiders added runs in every inning but the fourth and sixth and gave up one to the Saints in the bottom of the fifth.
“Jace gave us three solid innings and to me, the story of the night is Daron Drake,” said coach Elwood. “Sometimes Daron struggles with his control, but tonight he didn’t and he threw very well for us.”
