Mount Ayr 3,
Essex 0
It was a quick three set match for the Raiderettes on Thursday as they took to the road for a long trip to Essex to face the 1-8 Trojanettes.
Mount Ayr (2-0) last played a week prior in a triangular that saw the Raiderettes defeat Central Decatur, as well as the hosting Bedford Bulldogs.
The Raiderettes stayed on top of the Trojanettes throughout all three sets, finding a successful night of serves, going 65-71 with a total of 19 aces, led by Tegan Streit with eight, while going 15-for-17 from the serve line and Tabby Henle recorded six, going 15-to-16 from the line.
“Their left back was pulled back so far so I knew I could hit that in the back corner,” said Streit. “When they were all pulled back to try and get the one, I went forward to get the three or the four and it happened successfully.”
The Raiderettes recorded 22 kills on the night, led by Linsie Barnes who recorded six overall, while Hayden Ruggles added five and Kacee Klommhaus had four.
Kaylie Shields stayed busy with 14 assists on the night to lead the team along with a team high six digs.
Shields also had a 100 percent efficiency from the serve line, going 12-for-12 with one ace.
“We told them to stay focused, we were already coming in 2-0, on top, and we were feeling pretty good,” said coach Kristen Graham. “It was a long trip and we told them to come out and be aggressive from the start. We’ve been working on moving the ball around and communication is huge between the girls. Serve-Receive has been a huge factor this year and the girls are really stepping up with that and making those hits be possible.”
The Raiderettes played in front of a home crowd for the first time this season on Tuesday, when they hosted Nodaway Valley.
