Mt. Ayr 12, Lenox 5
Tuesday evening the Raiderettes competed against the Lenox Tigers after seeing a busy schedule last week.
The team went into Tuesday night’s game off of two losses from the day before, hoping to find their groove again.
First to score was the Tigers, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning, with the Raiderettes to follow, where they scored three.
The second inning played out just alike, with Lenox scoring two and Mount Ayr scoring 3.
Mount Ayr went on to score six more points, making the final score 12-5.
Kensie Barnes started out in the circle for the Raiderettes, where she pitched four innings, with Zoey Larsen finishing the game pitching the last three.
SWV 5, Mt. Ayr 1
The Raiderettes had a tough game on Thursday night where they faced off against the Southwest Valley Timberwolves.
The Raiderettes have not lost a game to the Timberwolves since 2012, but this year, they unfortunately came up short.
The Timberwolves were up to bat first, where they were able to put up one run in the first inning, while the Raiderettes still stood at zero.
The Raiderettes were eventually able to score one in the fourth inning after Hayden Ruggles hit a solo home run to left field, but not before SWV scored four cumulative points in the second and third innings, giving the Timberwolves a four point lead of 5-1, which would end up being the final score.
The Raiderettes will see Southwest Valley again in approximately two weeks, and after speaking with some of the players, they will be going into that game more than ready.
Mt. Ayr 13, Bedford 5
The Raiderettes finished strong last week with a win over Bedford on Friday night.
Senior Kalee Wise had some comments post game, “You know, after last nights game (against Southwest Valley) we knew we could all execute our roles better both on the field and at the plate,” said Wise. “We knew that the team that came out last night (the Raiderettes) was not us and I’m sure I can speak for everyone when I say that we came out ready to prove that tonight.”
The Raiderettes came out very hot at the plate, putting up seven runs in the first inning, and only allowing three.
In the second inning, Mt. Ayr showed up again scoring five runs where the Lady Dawgs scored zero.
The Raiderettes scored their final run in the fourth inning, and neither team scored from the fifth inning on. This allowed the Raiderettes to end the game with a final score of 13-5.
Linsie Barnes led the Raiderettes on the hitting side with a batting average of .800, with four hits, two runs and one RBI. Barnes’s batting average so far on the season is a .467 which puts her in seventh place in the Pride of Iowa conference and 55th in class 2A.
Murray 8, Mt. Ayr 7
The Raiderettes were on the road on Monday where they saw the Murray Mustangs.
The matchup was tough for the Raiderettes, as they went on to ultimately fall to the Mustangs by one point, with their final score being 8-7.
In the first inning, the Raiderettes were unable to score any runs, alongside the Mustangs with the score being held to 0-0 after the first.
In the second inning, the Mustangs came out ready to put the ball in play, with some big hits and plenty of bunts that earned them three runs.
The Raiderettes did not let their guard down after the Mustangs rally of three runs, as they put up two runs for themselves in the third inning, only to be followed by Murray who was able to put up two runs of their own, making the score after three 5-2.
The Raiderettes were able to put up five more runs throughout the rest of the ballgame, with three being in the seventh inning with high hopes that they could edge the Mustangs, but the team unfortunately fell short of this goal, which concluded the game with a final score of 8-7, putting the Raiderettes at a record of 5-4 so far on the season.
