Busy week for Raiderettes

Mt. Ayr 7, Lenox 1

The Raiderettes had a full schedulde last week, starting off with Lenox Tuesday night. The Raiderettes came out on top early in the game, putting up two runs in each of the first three innings, where the Tigers were only able to score one run compared to the Raiderettes six. That one run for the Tigers would be all that they would score throughout the entirty of the game thanks to the quick thinking of Lenox ‘s pitcher, Cadence Douglas, to steal home in the bottom of the first.

The Raiderettes were able to put up one more run in the top of the fifth inning, to make the final score between the Tigers and the Raiderettes 7-1 in their final matchup of the season.

Earlham 15, Mt. Ayr 1

The Raiderettes were on the road on Wednesday evening for their douubleheader against the Earlham Cardinals. Mt. Ayr played game one starting Kensie Barnes in the circle for the Raiderettes who was also the only one to score in the first game of the Raiderette and Cardinal doubleheader.

In the first inning the Raiderettes were able to hold the Cardinals to just two runs compared to Mt. Ayr’s zero with the hopes that they would show up strong at the plate in the innings to follow.  The Cardinals brought in one run in the third inning and another in the fifth to follow the Raiderettes who scored Kensie Barnes in the top of the fifth inning, makng the score after five 4-1.

The sixth inning is when the Cardinals realy found their groove, ringng in 11 runs in the top of the sixth to put them 14 points ahead of the Raiderettes to end the game with a final score of 15-1 after six innings.

Earlham 10, Mt. Ayr 0

The Raiderettes saw the Earlham Cardinals again after taking a loss in game one earlier in the evening, and they had the expectations of a different outcome.

Mt. Ayr made some lineup changes after game one, moving Hayden Ruggles behind the plate, Taylor Lumbard took the mound,  Anna Newton went  to first base, Kensie Barnes to third base, and halfway through the game Anna Greenland took over left field. The Cardinals did not show any sign of letting up on the Raiderettes after game one, as they put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth making the final score after the first inning 4-0, the Cardinals on top.

Earlham also made some defensive changes for game two, with the most noteable  being their change in pitchers with senior Avery Subbert in the circle for game two. The Raiderettes unfortunately were unable to put up any runs throughout the game, where oppositely the Cardinals had three runs come across in the second inning, two in the third, and their final run being in the bottom of the fourth, making the final score of game  two of the Earlham – Mt. Ayr doubleheader 10-0.

Mt. Ayr 12, Bedford 0

The Raiderettes played at home on Thursday night against the Bedford Bulldogs in what would be their final matchup of the season.  The Raiderettes were very eager to get on the field and they made that clear by shutting down the Bulldogs in just 35 minutes playing only three innings. Kensie Barnes was in the circle for the Raiderettes where she gave up one hit, zero runs, and recorded two strikeouts.

The Raiderettes co-head coaches, Morgan Quick and Sara Winemiller, expressed after the game just how proud they were of the team and their progress at the plate, and their hopes that it will “only go up from here.”

The Raiderettes went on to score three runs in the first inning, two runs in the second inning, and seven runs in the third inning to end the game with a final score of 12-0. Tegan Streit led her team at the plate with a batting average of 1.000 on two plate appearances earning herself two hits and scoring the Raiderettes two runs.  Linsie Barnes led the Raiderettes on the defensive side with a perfect fielding percentage with four putouts on six total chances and two assists from her position at second base.

Mt. Ayr 12, SWV 5

The Raiderettes traveled to Corning on Friday evening for their long-awaited matchup aganst the Southwest Valley Timberwolves. In theiir first matchup, the Raiderettes fell to the Timberwolves 5-1 and ever since then they have been looking forward to this game hoping to redeem themselves.  Mt. Ayr found this to be no problem despite the Timberwolves ability to put up two runs in the borrom of the first inning, making the score after one 2-0 with Southwest Valley leading.

The Raiderettes put up one run the the top of the second and two runs in the top of the third to make the score after the third inning 3-3.

The Raiderettes were not even close to finished as they put up four runs in the top of the fourth, one run in the fifth and one more in the sixth compared to the Timberwolves singular run throughout those three inning, giving the Raiderettes the lead 9-4 at the end of the sixth. Mt. Ayr continued pushing on to finish the game, allowing only one run from Southwest Valley in the bottom of the seventh after scoring three runs for themselves in the top of the seventh, making the final score 12-5.

Wayne 9, Mt. Ayr 4

Monday morning the Raiderettes hosted the Wayne Falcons in their conference matchup that was rescheduled from earlier this month. The Raiderettes had already seen Wayne in the Raiderettes Classic tournament at the end of May where they fell short of Wayne by five points. Mt. Ayr was feeling very confident coming into this matchup and it showed, as the Raiderettes had the game tied at three until the sixth inning, scoring two in the fourth and one in the top of the sixth.

The Falcons were not letting up when their time at the plate came around where they were able to score six runs, three being courtesy of a home run by Wayne sophomore, Izzie Moore.  The Raiderettes did manage to score one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning with a home run to left-center field by Aubree Clark, leading to a final score of 9-4, leaving Wayne and Mt. Ayr each tied at 8-2 in the POI conference standings.
