Raider Baseball goes 2-2 on the week

The Raiders were on the road for their first game of the week where they faced off against the Southeast Warren Warhawks on Tuesday.

Despite trailing by as many as four runs, the Raiders rallied to beat Southeast Warren with a final score of 11-7.

Senior Jaixen Frost had three hits in four at bats in the win for the Raiders where he hit a solo home run to left field in the seventh inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the fifth inning.

Southeast Warren got on the board early in the first inning where they were able to score one run leaving the game with a score of 1-0 after the first inning.

Mt. Ayr  took the lead, 2-1, in the top of the second inning with the help of singles by Jaize Frost, and Adler Reed.

Southeast Warren found themselves in the lead, 6-2, in the bottom of the third after they went on a five run rally after three of their batters got to take first on a walk.

The Raiders put up two more runs in the top of the fourth making the score 4-6 with the Warhawks still on top, but the Raiders showed no sign of folding.

Mt. Ayr took back the lead in the top of the fifth inning after Drew Ehlen singled, Riley  Stark grounded out, and Dyson Thompson singled, each scoring one run making the score after five 7-6, with the Raiders ahead by one.

The Raiders finished the game by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth and their final run in the top of the seventh  where the Warhawks only scored one in the bottom of the sixth and were unable to score any in the seventh, leaving the final score of the matchup to be 11-7, adding another win to the Raiders season record.

Dylan Graham surrendered three hits and seven runs with only three earned over five and one-third innings, where he struck out five and walked seven. Jaixen Frost took the mound for the final inning of the game in relief where he allowed zero hits, struck out three and walked none.

The Raiders accumulated a total of 14 hits in the game where Adler Reed went 5-for-6 at the plate to lead the Raiders in hits. Tate Dugan went 3-for-3 at the plate  leading the team with three runs batted in.

The Raiders had a home game on Wednesday evening where they competed in a non-conference matchup against the Earlham Cardinals.

Earlham got on the board in the top of the third inning where they scored two runs after the Raiders committed an error, and the Cardinals fifth batter in their lineup hit into a fielder’s choice, each scoring one run.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Raiders took the lead after Earlham committed two errors, and Jaize Frost singled, which helped the Raiders bring in three runs.

The fifth inning was scoreless for both the Raiders and the Cardinals, leaving the score after five 3-2, with the Raiders on top.

Earlham scored one run in the sixth inning thanks to a sacrifice fly which allowed the Cardinals to tie the game at three in the top of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh inning the Cardinals took control of the game scoring six runs on five hits to take a 9-3 lead.

The Raiders were able to put up three more runs for themselves in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough to take back the lead, leaving the final score of the game to be 9-6 where Earlham came out with the win.

The Mt. Ayr baseball team played Martensdale St. Mary’s on Thursday evening for their third game of the week.

The Blue Devils got on the board immediately, putting up five runs in the top of the first inning, making the score after one 5-0.

The Raiders were able to get two runs across in the bottom of the fourth, but not before Martensdale put up seven cumulative runs throughout the second, third, and fourth innings.

The Blue Devils would go on to score two more runs in the fifth inning where the Raiders did not score any, which ended the game with a final score of 14-2, Martensdale St. Mary’s on top.

Jaixen Frost led the Raiders at the plate with two hits in three at bats with a batting average of .667 on the game. Frost also leads the state of  Iowa with an overall season batting average of .629.

The Raiders played their final game of the week and of the regular season  at home on Friday night against the Nodaway Valley Wolverines.

The Raiders trailed by as many as five, but came back to beat Nodaway Valley with a final score of 15-5.

Nodaway Valley got on top early in the top of the first inning after they doubled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, their sixth man singled, scoring one run, and their ninth batter drew a walk, scoring one run.

The Raiders put up one run in the bottom of the first inning to follow the Wolverines five, leaving them down by four runs at the start of the second inning.

Mount Ayr made some noise in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-5. Tate Dugan hit into a fielder’s choice which scored two of the seven runs in the inning.

The Raiders were able to add to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Drew Ehlen singled, and Tate Dugan hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

Mt. Ayr continued their rally throughout the fourth and fifth innings, scoring four in the bottom of the fourth and their last two runs in the bottom of the fifth, holding the Wolverines at five from the second inning forward.

Trevin Victor helped the Raiders earn their 10 point win over Nodaway Valley from the mound in which he only gave up five hits and five runs over four innings, striking out eight and walking four. Drew Ehlen was on the bump for one inning for the Raiders in relief where he allowed zero hits, struck out three and walked none.

Mt. Ayr totaled 12 hits in the game. The number nine hitter, Dylan Graham, led the team with three hits in four at bats. Drew Ehlen, Jaixen Frost, and Rowan Sackett each had multiple hits for the Raiders.

Mt. Ayr had plenty  of patience at the plate, where they collected 10 walks for the game, helping them come out on top with a final score of 15-5.

Unfortunately, the Raiders will be going into the postseason without their primary second baseman, Adler Reed, after suffering from a hand injury Friday morning.
