JV Raiderettes win two of three games

The junior varsity Mount Ayr Raiderettes improved to 4-1 in the first half of the season, winning two of their three most recent games. The team is now off for Christmas break.
The Raiderettes have had some tough luck getting games this year so far as three scheduled games were canceled due to low numbers or no JV team. Those teams were Lenox, SE Warren, and Worth County Missouri.
Mount Ayr beat SW Valley at home, 34-19 on December 1, and at Nodaway Valley on December 19, 41-24. The loss came at Bedford 33-28.
Against the Timberwolves, Mount Ayr led 10-7 after the first quarter and 15-11 at halftime. Mount Ayr took a 23-16 lead to the final quarter. In the final quarter, Mount Ayr used an 11-3 run to close out the game.
Mount Ayr was led by Tatum Friedrich with 10 points and Keely Wasteney with 9 off the bench. Other scorers were Kensie Barnes 7 points and 4 steals, Adalynn Dredge 4 points and 5 steals, Abby Larson 4 points, Kacie Larson 4 points and 3 rebounds, and MaKel Jones 1-point. Mount Ayr was 11-for-18 from the free-throw line and made 14 shots from the floor.
Against the Wolverines, Mount Ayr held Nodaway Valley to three points in the first half as they led 14-3 halftime lead. The Wolverines would outscore Mount Ayr 15-11 in the third quarter to put the score at 25-18 going to the last quarter. Mount Ayr secured the game with a 10-point, 16-6 run in the last quarter.
Abby Larson scored 10 points and had 8 steals, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals and Kacie Larson also had 10 points to lead Mount Ayr. Other scorers were Tatum Friedrich 8, Kensie Barnes 6, MaKel Jones 5, and Keely Wasteney 2 points. Wasteney led Mount Ayr in rebounding with eight. Mount Ayr made 17 shots but made only 7 of 13 free throws.
Against the Bulldogs, Mount Ayr trailed 10-5 after the first quarter and 20-14 at halftime. The Raiderettes and Bulldogs struggled to score points in the second half though Mount Ayr outscored Bedford 14-13.
Kensie Barnes led Mount Ayr with 10 points. MaKel Jones scored 6, Abby Larson 5, Keely Wasteney 3, Kacie Larson 2, and Allison Anderson 2 points.
