At a brief meeting of the Mount Ayr City Council, on Monday, February 5, the council decided to take proposals for city garbage services.
After discussing city garbage services during prior meetings, the city received an inquiry from someone offering to submit a bid to provide the service.
“I think we should explore,” council member Mack Greene stated.
“I agree,” council member Jessica Bishop noted.
“We should always keep our options open,” council member Jessica Murphy said.
The city would not have an obligation to contract the service, but bids would allow the city to compare and select the most cost effective option.
After a brief discussion about whether bids would be competitive with the current cost of operating the service, Mack Greene and Mike Wik put forward a motion to open up city garbage service for proposals.
Regular Business
The council moved swiftly through the rest of the agenda items approving:
• A 28E Agreement between the Mount Ayr fire department and the Midwest Regional Dive Team,
• The appointment of Matt Starmer to the Mount Ayr Park Board to fill out a term for someone vacating their position,
• A class B retail alcohol license for Dollar General,
• A class C retail alcohol license for Still Smokin BBQ.
Other Discussion
As City Administrator Brent Wise was not present for the meeting, Mayor Steve Fetty asked the council members if there were any other topics that should be discussed.
Concern about the city street lights up town by U.S. Bank was brought up. The problem has been ongoing for the past couple years and to date the street lights continue to work intermittently.
