The third annual “Road Trip Ringgold” event plans to bring the community together and invite visitors to discover the hidden treasures and communities that make up Ringgold County on June 1.
This one-day event is held annually the first Saturday in June, was born out of a partnership between the Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce, Ringgold County Development, and Ringgold County Tourism after the COVID-19 pandemic paused normal business operation.
The ambitious road trip was designed to combine rummage and yard sales, antique shops and boutiques, direct sales vendors, crafts, and scenic views into one day of exploration around the county.
This year, visitors can expect to find at least 16 yard sales, and over 21 retail, pop up vendors, and food establishments across Ringgold County.
Traveling south on Highway 169 from Afton and Arispe, don’t miss Back Roads Junk in Shannon City. Further south, just off Highway 169, homemade items and at least four yard sales can be found in Tingley, Iowa.
Continuing to the east, travelers can stop in Ellston to take a peek inside The Fox Market, to find local baked goods, take and bake meals, packaged salads, gifts, boutique clothing, and unique home decor. The re-designed store held a soft opening last weekend, welcoming visitors into the freshly remodeled space under new ownership.
Stops in the northern part of the county also include The Crib along Highway 169.
Travel back in time at the Mount Ayr Depot Museum just north of the square, to enjoy a historical experience and rummage sale.
Pick up a light breakfast and a cup of coffee, Lotus Tea, or smoothie while exploring HTH Outdoors/Mama & Papa Bear Coffee Bar.
Businesses around the Mount Ayr square include the Daily Flair Boutique, “That’s What She Read” book store, unique treasures at Ayra, Country Blossoms, Aunt Jennies Attic & Betty Janez.
Pop up vendors Simply Stitches and 290 Design will also be set up on the square from 8 a.m. -3 p.m., weather permitting.
At the northwest corner of the square, you can find bargain blowout prices on scrap paper, envelopes, or purchase an area history book at the Record-News. Continuing around the corner, you’ll find In The Ayr, and All Seasons Sweets & Eats.
Pick up a bite to eat at RAYR Market on the south side of the square, and enjoy a break in activity at the courthouse shelter.
On the west side of the county, make a stop in Diagonal to peruse Farm Roots Design, a women’s clothing boutique, and take in a yard sale or two.
A virtual map is available on the Road Trip Ringgold Facebook page or online at www.intheayr.com/road-trip-ringgold.
More detailed information about county-wide garage/yard sales can also be found on page 6 of this week’s Record News. Mark your calendars for next year’s event June 7, 2025.
