Raiders end regular season with two losses

The regular season has come to an end for the Mount Ayr baseball team, an end that they had hoped to avoid as the Raiders fell in both games they played last week with a close loss, 11-8 at Interstate-35, and another road loss at CAM 19-10.
The Raiders record sits at 7-10 overall and the Raiders finished the POI schedule 7-6 for fourth place.
The Raiders next game will be their postseason opener on Saturday, July 6. Mount Ayr will play at Martensdale-St. Mary’s at 5 p.m. against Bedford in a district opener.
The Raiders came into the week coming off a 3-2 road win at Nodaway Valley the previous Friday. The Raiders traveled to Truro on June 24 to face the Roadrunners. There, the Raiders fell 11-8. The win by I-35 was the 18th straight for the Roadrunners since the 2009 season. I-35 saw their record improve to 19-5 with the win.

The Roadrunners scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control of the game at 6-0. Mount Ayr would cut the lead in half at 6-3 with two runs in the second and a run in the third inning. I-35 would extend their lead to 9-3 with a three-run third.
Mount Ayr tried to come back late, getting the score at 9-8, but they couldn’t get closer.
Dylan Graham started and went three innings. He gave up nine runs on ten hits and took the loss. He struck out three and walked one batter. Drew Graham pitched four innings of relief giving up four hits and two runs while striking out two and walking one batter.
Conlee Stark, the eighth hitter in the Raiders line-up, led Mount Ayr with three hits in four at-bats. Rowan Sackett, Stark, Preston Fleharty, Jaxsen Walter, and Hayes Stogdill each had an RBI in the game. Adler Reed stole two bases as the Raiders had four steals as a team. The
Raiders turned a pair of double plays in the game.
Interstate-35 had 16 hits in the game with six players getting multi-hit games. Korbyn Maxwell was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI’s and Korey Kirkpatrick was 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Roadrunners. Brendan Goering, Chase Dixon, Brock Stephens, and Christian Williamson all had two hits in the game. The Roadrunners used five pitchers in the game with Zach Maters getting the victory.
The next night, the Raiders played at CAM in Anita for another non-conference game. The Raiders seemed to be in control of the game in the top of the first with nine runs and a commanding lead after the first inning at 9-0. However, the Cougars would outscore the Raiders 19-1 over the rest of the game, including a 10-run fourth to take the game 19-10.
The Raiders used five pitchers in the game. Tate Dugan started and took the loss after working two and two-thirds innings. He gave up nine runs on six hits, struck out one, and walked three.
Mount Ayr had nine hits in the game. Adler Reed was 4-for-5 with 4 RBI’s to lead Mount Ayr. Preston Fleharty and Conlee Stark each had two hits. Rowan Sackett had the other Mount Ayr hit in the game.
CAM had 16 hits in the game. Brayden Chester, Makade Paulsen, and Austin Eblen each had three hits in the game and combined to drive in seven of the 19 runs for the Cougars. Carson McKee got the win after coming into the game in relief and going five and a third innings. McKee struck out four, walked two, and gave up two runs on four hits.
