The postseason began Monday night at Mount Ayr as the Raiderettes hosted Lenox in a Class 1A Region 3 first-round game. There, the Lenox Tigers sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 12 runs in the top of the third inning to help in a 13-2 win in five innings. The Tigers improved to 14-18 and advanced to play top-ranked Martensdale-St. Mary’s. Mount Ayr ends the season 8-12.
Mount Ayr had trouble solving Lenox starting pitcher Zoey Reed. The Raiderettes struck out ten times in the game and had only five hits in the game.
Kensie Barnes led Mount Ayr, going 3-for-3 with three singles and a run scored. Other hits were from Aubree Clark and Breya Nickle. Kynlee Still and Nickle each reached base via a walk.
Barnes took the loss pitching after going two and a third innings. She gave up eight runs and nine hits. She did not strike out a batter and walked two.
Keeley Wasteney pitched in the game as well and gave up five runs in two and a third innings of work in relief. She had one strikeout and walked four.

Lenox had 14 hits in the game off of Mount Ayr pitching. Four Lenox players had multi-hit games. Reese Reed had a game, going 3-for-4 with 5 RBI’s. Zoey Reed also had three hits. Sadie Cox had a pair of hits and a RBI and Danika Evans had two hits. Ashlynn Allee had a hit and drove in two runs while Delaney Funk and Hadlee Christensen each had hits and an RBI.
Lenox sent five to the plate in the top of the first inning but left two runners stranded. Mount Ayr did a similar thing, getting two, but stranding them on base as the score was 0-0 after one inning.
Neither team would score in the second inning.
In the top of the third is where Lenox took control of the game, sending 17 batters to the plate and scoring 12 runs on 10 hits. The Tigers got their first seven batters in the inning on base and all seven scored. The big hit to get the scoring going was a 3-run double by Reese Reed.
After three innings, the Tigers led 12-0.
Lenox would score their last run in the top of the fifth to put the score at 13-1. Mount Ayr would make it interesting in the bottom of the fifth inning on a sac fly by Breya Nickle with the bases loaded to get the score to 13-2. With the run needed to continue the game or else the game would end by the 10-run mercy rule, the Tigers would retire the Raiderettes before that could happen, ending the game early.
Mount Ayr beat Lenox twice this season in close games. Mount Ayr won at Lenox 8-6 on May 28 and beat the Tigers at home, 3-2 on June 11.
