Four Raiders named to All-Conference teams

The Pride of Iowa Conference continued to honor their best from the recently concluded regular season by releasing their 2024-25 boy’s all-conference teams.
The annual list that showcases the best of the conference included a POI high, four Mount Ayr players.
Mount Ayr’s all-conference selections were Jackson Ruggles first team, Tate Dugan and Tyler Martin second team, and Jaize Frost honorable mention.

First team all-conference Jackson Ruggles
Ruggles led the Pride of Iowa Conference in scoring this season with 478 points and an average of 19.9 points a game. Ruggles also was the conference leader in field goals made (166), three pointers made (64), three point percentage (43.5%), free throws made (82), and free throw percentage (79.6%).

Second team all-conference Tate Dugan
Dugan collected the fifth best total for rebounds in the conference with 181, and was second in the POI in field goal percentage, shooting at a 64.7-percent clip. Dugan was third on the team in scoring with an 8.1-point average and had a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game average.

Second team all-conference Tyler Martin
Martin was fifth in the POI in three-point percentage with a 39.5-percent clip. Martin was second on the team in scoring this season with a 12.9-point scoring average. He also averaged 3.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.6 steals a game.

Honorable Mention all-conference Jaize Frost
Frost had the fifth best total for blocked shots in the conference with 36. Frost averaged 5.8 points and 5.1 rebounds a game this year.
Mount Ayr had a record of 20-4 overall under longtime coach Bret Ruggles. The Raiders were 14-2 in the POI this year and tied SE Warren for the best record in the conference. The Warhawks were declared the champions after each had the same record, but Mount Ayr’s two losses were to SE Warren.
The Raiders advanced to the district final game in Class 1A District 7 before falling to state ranked Coon Rapids-Bayard 67-41. Mount Ayr beat Lenox 64-50 in the first round and beat East Mills 56-44 in the second round.
There were three unanimous all-conference selections to the first team. They were seniors Gabe Funk from Lenox and Cam Seuferer from SE Warren, and junior Jackson Ruggles from Mount Ayr. Other first team picks were Trey Wight from Martensdale-St. Mary’s, Nash Dykes from Central Decatur, and Cael Hogan from SW Valley. SE Warren won the Pride of Iowa Conference title, beating Mount Ayr both times they played to finish 14-2 in the POI. Mount Ayr also finished 14-2, but the Warhawks had the tiebreakers with the head-to-head wins. The Raiders had the most picks on the all-conference team with four while Martensdale-St. Mary’s, Central Decatur, SW Valley, and SE Warren all had three selections.
The Raiders will say goodbye to two other seniors in Trevin Victor and Louden Main.
The Raiders will have a potential senior class next year of Ruggles, Jaxson Greene, Dugan, and Rowan Sackett. Mount Ayr will have a potential junior class of Hayes Stogdill, Adler Reed, Drew Graham, and Avery Wolfe. Next year’s sophomore class could look like Drayden Thompson, Evan Ruggles, and Isac Dugan.
