New pool readies for opening

At the last pool progress meeting, Tuesday, March 25, the contract team working on the new Mount Ayr aquatic center shared they plan to wrap the project up by May 6.
Prior to the end of March, the pool deck was completed and pool walls had been sand blasted, and grout rubbed to prepare for painting. The heater, gas meter, waterline, and meter pit had been installed and the fencing around the pool was completed.
Piping in the pump pit was 90% complete, with work expected to be completed prior to the next pool progress meeting on April 22 at 10:30 a.m.
Painting of the pool is expected to be finished by the end of the week, and ladders and diving stands will soon be installed. Additionally, slide installations are scheduled for the week of April 14.
Lifeguards and summer staff are expected to be hired at the upcoming City Council meeting, Wednesday, April 16.
City Administrator Brent Wise plans to start filling the pool with water the last weekend of April.
Pool chemicals have been ordered so they will be on hand for a May 6 staff training session.
Contractors plan to have all their equipment out of Judge Lewis Park by May 6, and the walking trail around the park is expected to reopen by Monday, May 12.
