The MACHS Speech team headed to East Union on Saturday February 28 for the District Individual contest. We took eight programs with seven students performing.
Shaylinn Smith delivered the prose piece “God is Love” and received a 2 rating. Nick Triggs wrote his own speech about his aunt Amanda’s battle with invisible diseases and also received a 2 rating. While they did an excellent job and were given positive feedback from the judges, they will not be heading to state.
Bria Gilliland delievered the prose piece “How a Fish Nearly Destroyed by Childhood,” Cordell Clemens read the poem “I am the Mat” regarding wrestling, Brodie Howell delivered a literary program entitled, “The Ethics of Belonging.” Lacey Weeda delivered the literary program, “Hopelessness,” and Eva England the literary program, “The Living Nightmare,” as well as sang “I Hear the Bells” from Hairspray in solo musical theater. All of these students received a 1 rating and will be headed to the state competition.
State Competition will be March 14 at Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs.
