REECE W. ELLIOTT

REECE W. ELLIOTT, SON OF A. W. AND EMMA ELLIOTT, WAS BORN IN RICE TOWNSHIP, RINGGOLD COUNTY, IOWA ON FEBRUARY 3, 1893.  HE DIED AT MOUNT AYR, IOWA, ON MARCH 13, 1919 AT THE AGE OF 26 YEARS, TWO MONTHS, AND TEN DAYS.

HE SPENT HIS BOYHOOD ON THE PARENTAL FARM AND IN COUNTRY SCHOOL. AFTER ATTENDING SCHOOL IN MOUNT AYR FOR A TIME, HE TAUGHT SEVERAL TERMS. HE WAS MARRIED ON MAY 28, 1914, TO MISS LOTTIE TRIMBLE. THEY MADE THEIR HOME ON A FARM FOR A YEAR AND THEN CAME TO TOWN, WHERE MR. ELLIOTT BEGAN WORK AS AN ABSTRACTOR. EXCEPT FOR ONE SUMMER SPENT AT GREENE, IOWA, IN BANK, HE REMAINED HERE, CONNECTED WITH THE BANKS OF MOUNT AYR.

IN THE FALL OF 1912, UNDER THE PASTORAL LEADERSHIP OF  REV. ARTHUR EASTMAN, HE UNITED WITH THE EUREKA METHODIST CHURCH.  HE MAINTAINED THIS RELATIONSHIP FAITHFULLY TO THE END OF LIFE.  IN HIS OWN LIFE, IN HIS BUSINESS RELATIONS AND AT THE FAMILY ALTAR WHICH HE EVER MAINTAINED, HE TRIED TO LIVE HONESTLY THE PROFESSION WHICH HE HAD MADE.  HE WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE YEOMAN AND THE WOODMAN FRATERNAL ORDERS.

HE LEAVES THE WIFE, A SON FRANK ALBERT, AGED 16 MONTHS, FATHER AND MOTHER, ONE BROTHER,  MARK ELLIOTT, FOUR SISTERS,  MRS. FLOSSIE SACKETT, MRS. GLEN MOORE, GLADYS AND ALICE ELLIOTT, AND HIS AGED GRANDFATHER, REV. S. A. ELLIOTT, TO MOURN HIS UNTIMELY DEATH.

REECE ELLIOTT WAS A FAITHFUL AND KIND HUSBAND, A DUTIFUL SON, THE LOVING AND VERY PROUD FATHER TO A SPLENDID LITTLE SON, A GOOD NEIGHBOR, A GOOD CITIZEN AND A GOOD FRIEND.  HE WAS BLESSED WITH MANY WARM FRIENDS WHO KNEW HIS STERLING WORTH DESPITE HIS HABIT OF QUIET SELF EFFACEMENT, AND THE COMMUNITY IS MADE POORER BY HIS GOING.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD AT THE MOUNT AYR METHODIST CHURCH ON SUNDAY, MARCH 16, CONDUCTED BY THE PASTOR, FRANK BEAN, A FRIEND OF THE DECEASED, ASSISTED BY REV. CHAS. G. WRIGHT, PASTOR OF THE BAPTIST CHURCH. THE REMAINS WERE LAID TO REST IN ROSE HILL CEMETERY.
