Obituary – Doris Jean Redman
Doris Jean Redman (Dukes), born March 1, 1949, passed away on September 28, 2026, at the age of 77. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose sense of humor and ability to make people laugh touched the lives of those around her.
Doris was born to Vincent and Lela Dukes. Throughout her life, she lived in different towns and states, experiencing different places and chapters along the way. But ultimately, she found her way back to where her heart was—Mt. Ayr and Ellston, the places that held a special meaning for her.
Doris found joy in the simple things in life. She enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles, dancing, and playing cards. Most of all, she loved making people laugh. Her humor, personality, and ability to find fun in everyday moments brought warmth and laughter to those fortunate enough to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Lela Dukes; her sister, Jane Lee Feeback; her brother, Jimmy Dukes; and her son, Phillip Luft.
Doris is survived by her children, Mary Jean Esteban and Ken England; her sisters, Dorothy Burger and Donna Greenland; her brother, Joe Dukes; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind family and friends who will carry her memory with them and remember the laughter, love, and countless moments they shared.
Doris’s life was marked by the many places she lived, but more importantly by the people she loved and the memories she created along the way. She will be remembered for her laughter, her love of fun, her generous spirit, and the special way she could bring a smile to those around her.
In lieu of services, the family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date, where family and friends will gather to remember Doris, share stories, and celebrate the life she lived. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to Alzheimer’s Association. For those who choose to contribute, memorials may be made directly to Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/iowa or mailed to the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr to be forwarded on.
