Martha Shill Teale

Martha Shill was born in Jefferson County, New York, January 27, 1948, and departed this life July 24, 1924, at the family home in Kellerton, aged 76 years, 5 months and 28 days.  When at the age of 7 years she, with her parents, moved to Davis County, IL., where she grew to womanhood.  She was united in marriage to Eugene Teale, November3, 1872.  They immediately started westward, locating in Iowa, where they have continued to reside.  To this union was born two children, Herbert of Lamoni, IA., and John of St. Joseph, MO., who with their father and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Mary Ailshire, of Sargent, NE., are left to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate wife and mother.  She gave eight years of her life to school teaching.  She was very successful and gave intellectual and moral impetus to young people of fifty years ago.  For many years she has been an esteemed member of the Order of Eastern Star.  She united with the Methodist Church in her early womanhood and has always lived a devout Christian life.  She always seemed most happy when ministering to the wants of others.  The death of Grandma Teale marks the passing of one of the pioneers of Iowa, and one who took an active part in the upbuilding of the community in which she lived.   She has been a sufferer for years, her recent illness dating from last August.  She was patient and kind through it all, never complaining  and never losing faith in her Lord and Master.  She will be greatly missed by her large circle of friends for to know her was to love her.  Funeral services were held from the Kellerton Methodist Church, Sunday, Rev. C.E. Bennett officiating.  Burial was made in Maple Row Cemetery, conducted by the Eastern Star Lodge.
