Obituary – Mildred “Lucille” Main
Mildred Lucille Main was born at home on May 27, 1925, near Kellerton, Ringgold County, Iowa, the daughter of Carroll and Mary Merritt. She passed away on February 25, 2026, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
Lucille attended country schools until high school when she attended two years at Kellerton and two years in Mount Ayr, where she graduated with the Class of 1943. After graduation she worked at an insurance company in Des Moines, Iowa.
Lucille was united in marriage to Marvin Main on December 22, 1944, at the United Methodist parsonage in Creston, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Connie in 1946, Jack in 1948 and Roger, who died at birth, in 1953.
Lucille was a homemaker and farm wife throughout her 66 years of marriage. She and Marvin lived on various farms in Poe, Washington, and Liberty townships in Ringgold County. After Marvin’s death in 2011 she moved to Heritage Park in Mount Ayr before moving to Clearview Home in Mount Ayr in 2023. While at Heritage Park she enjoyed visiting with the other residents and playing cards whenever there was a game going on.
Lucille and Marvin enjoyed dancing throughout their life together, attending dances and jam sessions all over the area. They were known for their polka dancing.
In May of 2025 family and friends gathered at Wishard Chapel to celebrate Lucille’s 100th birthday.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Marvin; her son, Roger Ray; her parents, Carroll and Mary Merritt; brothers, Ronald Merritt, Harold Merritt and Ralph Merritt; sisters-in-law, Pauline Merritt and Helen Reynolds, and brother-in-law, Algie Link.
Left to mourn her passing are her children, Connie (Doyle) Richards of Tingley, Iowa and Jack (Sandy) Main of Mount Ayr, Iowa; five grandchildren, Kris (Bruce) Quick of Tingley, Iowa, Kelly (Jim) Walsh of Creston, Iowa, Chad (Jen) Main of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Nikki (Jon) Binning of Warrensburg, Missouri and Jodi (Jeff) Kruger of Norwalk, Iowa; 14 great-grandchildren, Colton (Amelia) Quick, Austin (Cacey) Quick, Ashton Quick and fiancé Bryson Raney, Cody (Logan) Stackhouse, Kaci Frey, Jamie Stackhouse, Lexie (Logan) Foetisch, Sadie (Nate) Bell, Macy Beerman and fiancé Trent Harper, Ali Main, Maci Main, Kaylee Main, Megan (Aaron) Monn and Sarah Binning; 11 great-great-grandchildren, Jaxon Quick, Cooper Quick, Elena Quick, Aislee Quick, Ryder Stackhouse, Laney Stackhouse, Dally Stackhouse, Tate Frey, Ty Frey, Mellie Foetisch and Poppy Monn; sister, Lorraine Link of Mount Ayr and many nieces and nephews.
Services were 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr. Pastor Bill Armstrong officiated and Kris Quick gave the eulogy. Casketbearers were Bruce Quick, Jon Binning, Chad Main, Colton Quick, Austin Quick, Cody Stackhouse. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials are to Wishard Chapel Community Church.
