Eleanor Louise Miller March 7, 1922 – February 3, 2011

Eleanor Louise Miller, 88, passed away on February 3, 2011. She was born to Floyd and Bernice Campbell on March 7, 1922 in Mount Ayr, Iowa. She married Delmar Miller in 1942 and eventually moved to a farm east of Mount Ayr where they raised their four children, Linda (Mike) Gouger, Gale (Diane) Miller, Duane (Donna) Miller and Jim Miller. In 1968 Eleanor and Delmar moved to Altoona, Iowa and later to Valley View Village in Des Moines, Iowa.

 

Eleanor was a lifelong learner and educator. She graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1940 and Drake University with a BSE in 1964 and MSE in 1973. She taught school in Ringgold county, Mount Ayr Community schools and Southeast Polk. She later worked for the State of Iowa before retiring in 1987. Eleanor was a member of the Altoona Christian Church for over 35 years.

Eleanor leaves to mourn her death her four children; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Thelma Maxey, and brother, John (Rose) Campbell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar; brother, Loren Campbell, and sister, Annabelle.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Altoona Christian Church, 2890 1st Ave. S, Altoona, Iowa 50009 or Caring Hands Food, 201 9th Street Northeast, Altoona, IA 50009-4212. Arrangements were by Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr.

Services were conducted at the Altoona Christian Church in Altoona on Monday, February 7, 2011, with Rev. Tom Felts officiating. Musicians included Paulette Craggs and Doug Teuber.

Casket bearers were David Gouger, Joe Gouger, Bret Miller, Brooks Miller, Kyle Miller and Laura Miller.

Eleanor was laid at rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
