The Raiderettes fell Wednesday night to the Central Decatur Cardinals in a game that was tight up until halftime.
The Raiderettes were down 34-28 going into halftime and had the Lady Cardinals on their heels.
Coming out in the third though, the Lady Cardinals stunned Mount Ayr, out scoring them 24-11 to take a big lead.
The Raiderettes were unable to get anything going in the second half as the team struggled to score.
Sam Stewart led Mount Ayr with 17 points and was six-of-16 on the night, hitting two threes and going five-for-six at the line.
“It was a really good game, but the score might not show it,” said Raiderette Sam Stewart. “We were all disappointed we lost our last game, but we definitely had a good run and it was a close game.”
Stewart will look to help lead the Raiderettes next season as she enters her senior year along with Jaycee Knight and Gracie Mobley.
“Man our kids played their tails off,” said coach Thad Streit. “Our first quarter gave us a ton of confidence and we were only down six at half and most of the third. Then we had a bad last two minutes of the third and just like that we were down 20.”
“We had a plan that we didn’t want them to shoot many threes. Our perimeter defense was outstanding. We played a great game and our girls have nothing to hang their head about.”
The Raiderettes lose one senior and will bring back a very talented squad. Keirston Klommhaus played all four years under coach Streit.
“Keirston had a great career and now someone will have to step up in her shoes next year. We have a great nucleus coming back and we had a great JV team this year. I am anxious to see how we develop this summer.”
