Coaches Deb and John Larsen are entering their 20th year coaching Mount Ayr Raiderette track and field. Last season the girls finished as Pride of Iowa Conference champions and have taken multiple events to the state level.
Last years 2018 graduated multiple state qualifying athletes in Bailey Anderson, Caylie Hickman, Alyssa Johnson, Sara Winemiller as well as seniors Mercadez Birkenholz and Kirsten Young.
Returning to the team for the 2019 season, however, are 17 letter winners with 12 more girls coming to the squad.
Athletes with state meet experience that have returned this year are Keirston Klommhaus, MacKenzie Shields, Ryann Martin, Jaycee Knight and Samantha Stewart.
“Nodaway Valley and Wayne will be improved teams this year,” said coach Debbie Larsen. “If we continue to make improvement throughout the season and stay healthy, we should be in the thick of the race for another conference championship.”
