The Raiderettes had fallen behind in the schedule after rain caused postponements and cancellations, however, they are now sitting at 5-0 after a full week of play and a tournament on Saturday.
Nodaway Valley
MA 11, NV 2
The girls first win came against a 2-4 Nodaway Valley team.
The Raiderettes started early with two runs, holding the Lady Wolverines scoreless until the sixth inning where they scored two, keeping them alive as game was headed toward a mercy rule ending with Mount Ayr sitting at 10 runs.
Alexa Anderson slammed one out of centerfield for the first home run of the season to put the Raiderettes up 11-2, and a quick few outs saw the Raiderettes grab the first win of the year.
“I knew we had some rust, there were some things tonight where we saw a couple pop flys where we didn’t run to the spot we tried to float with it,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “Those are day one things and we are in week three, but we are still on day one.”

East Union
Mount Ayr 13, EU 0
The girls headed north on Thursday for a contest against the East Union Eagles. A slow start saw the Raiderettes put up a pair of runs in the first and second before a five run third inning.
Both teams stalled in the fourth, but Mount Ayr kicked it into high gear in the fifth with six runs, going through the lineup without an out. The Raiderettes won on the mercy rule after five innings and shut out the Eagles 13-0.
In the win, Caroline McAlexander recorded her first home run of the season and only allowed one hit in the circle.
“The first time we saw the pitcher we struggled just a little bit but we did the two things that are important,” said coach Ruggles. “We cashed in a couple runs, manufactured a couple, got a couple good base hits.”

Mount Ayr 3, Wayne 2
The season opener for the Raiderettes came last Friday when Wayne came to town.
The Lady Falcons came out strong, scoring on their first time at the plate due to a few errors on the Raiderettes part.
Mount Ayr was able to answer back, but Wayne scored another run in the second while holding Mount Ayr to take a 2-1 lead.
Missed opportunities saw the Raiderettes struggle, but a run in the bottom of the third by Sam Stewart, who was knocked in by a double off the bat of Addy Reynolds tied up the game.
The Raiderette girls took the lead when MaKayla Jones slid home after Channler Henle hit a liner up the middle.
The game would go three more innings, with both teams stalling and Mount Ayr taking a hard-fought 3-2 win.
“We are sharpening our saw,” said coach Ruggles. “We aren’t good yet, because we’ve only got three games in, we are going to make little mental errors. We are still figuring ourselves out.”
Caroline McAlexander was in the circle for the Raiderettes for the entirety of the contest. She struck out eight batters and allowed two runs on five hits.
“Confidence is a big one, but tonight was the night I had to rely on my teammates,” said Caroline McAlexander. “I always think I have to strike everyone out, and that’s never the case. I have to rely on my teammates and finally in that seventh inning I got them all in there and told them this is the inning that you guys will have to do all the work, my arm hurts so bad and you guys gotta do it so they did it.”
The Raiderettes were feeling pretty good after the hard-fought win, and short stop Sam Stewart crashed the interview with McAlexander in which she let it be known that “Caroline is amazing.”
They would rally behind her again the next day in Creston for a softball tournament.

The Raiderettes traveled east Monday night for a contest against the Mormon Trail Lady Saints.
The girls came out swinging, putting up seven runs in the first innings before the Lady Saints could retire the side.
Several Mormon Trail errors combined with good at-bats from the Raiderettes saw coach Bret and Brandie Ruggles substitute in the junior varsity girls.
“It was great to get them in,” said coach Bret Ruggles. It was great they had a chance to get some varsity experience that wasn’t quite so intense.”
The Raiderettes would go on to win 18-0 to close out the night.
