Keelan Klommhaus pitched his longest game this year after being limited due to injury.
MStM 4, Mount Ayr 2
The Raiders hosted the Martensdale-St. Mary’s Blue Devils on June 27 and put on an entertaining game for the Raider and Blue Devil fans in attendance.
Martensdale-St. Mary’s, ranked third in the state, fell behind 2-0 to Mount Ayr after three scoreless innings.
The Raiders saw runs from Keelan Klommhaus, who hit a solo home run, while a nice hit by Isaac Grose put Erik Trujillo on base as the runner, who found his way home shortly after.
Grose, was recording strikeout after strikeout until the Blue Devils began to hit him in the fifth.
Giving up four runs, the Raiders attempted a comeback in the last two innings, coming close, but never getting another runner home.
Grose struck out 12 batters, walking only two and allowed four runs on four hits.
“This is the kind of baseball we know we can play. Isaac pitched exceptionally well. They scored in one inning and got away from us a little bit,” said coach Chris Elwood. “We just didin’t get the big hits we needed.”
