Currently, at the time of this writing, the Mount Ayr Raiderettes sit atop the Pride of Iowa, however, not alone. The Lenox Lady Tigers share the throne, but with Tuesday’s meeting, it could all be decided.
The Raiderettes recently defeated Martensdale-St. Mary’s, Central Decatur and swept Bedford in a double header to improve to 20-2 on the season.

Sam Stewart slides into home and is ruled safe by the umpire as she slides underneath the tag to reach home plate before the Lady Blue Devil catcher can get the tag on her. Stewart recorded one run on one hit in the game.
Mount Ayr 8, MStM 0
Martensdale-St. Mary’s traveled back to Mount Ayr on Thursday, after being here Wednesday during the first day of the Raiderette Invitational.
In their first matchup of the year, the Raiderettes defeated the Lady Blue Devils 8-0.
In the bottom of the first, Caroline McAlexander got the Raiderettes on the board with a solo home run.
Channler Henle continued the scoring in the 2nd, with a double followed by Sam Stewart putting two runners across the plate before a wild pitch sees Addy Reynolds across with bases loaded.
The Raiderettes grounded out for the third out of the inning, but now led 6-0.
McAlexander, on the mound for Mount Ayr, recorded two strikeouts and the defense behind her caught a fly out to retire the side.
In the bottom of the third, Mount Ayr added two more runs after Henle doubled and a costly Blue Devil error.
The Raiderettes would not score again through four innings, but would hold Martensdale-St. Mary’s to zero to win the game.
“Overall, I thought it was fantastic,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “We always worry about our first real hot night. Jaycee gave it a good go, but got a headache so we thought we would take it easy. Our depth has been such a great help. Caroline threw a gem tonight. We finally hit a slow pitcher tonight the way we should. We hit in the gaps, we hit down the line. Our sense of urgency right now has been to win a conference title and this was the first stepping stone to that.”

Mt. Ayr, 10, CD 0
The Raiderettes last regular road game of the season saw them travel to Leon to face the Central Decatur Lady Cardinals.
Mount Ayr scored two in the top of the first after Addy Reynolds recorded the Raiderettes first hit of the night for a single. Alexa Anderson drove in Reynolds on a double and passed ball. Abigail Barnes drove in Anderson with a single.
The Raiderettes and Lady Cardinals had a scoreless second inning, however, the Raiderettes had a bit top of the third, scoring seven runs on Lady Cardinal errors and nicely placed hits.
The Raiderettes recorded seven RBI to help win the game, while McAlexander pitched, allowing no runs on three hits and striking out nine batters.
“We hit the ball real hard tonight. They had a little bit of errors but that’s because we hit it in such great spots. We drove the ball tonight instead of lifting it,” said coach Ruggles. “All night long we kept putting pressure on them. This is a defense where if you put pressure on them they will fall and they finally did.”

Mt. Ayr 11, Bedford 1
Game two against Bedford started shortly after the first. Mount Ayr would be the home team this go around.
After two innings the game was scoreless.
The Raiderettes put the first runs on the board after an Addy Reynolds sacrifice bunt put Payten Lambert through home.
Sam Stewart, stole home and slid in under the tag for run number two.
A fielders choice at third ended the inning.
The Raiderettes would go on to score four more in the next two innings before allowing one run in the top of the fifth and then answering Bedford’s run with five of their own.
To start the five run inning, the Raiderettes led off with Caroline McAlexander. She found the perfect pitch and launched a solo home run out of the park.
Anderson hit a single, while Abigail Barnes hit the left field fence for a double.
Halsie Barnes came to the plate, with one out on the board and hit a nice ball into the outfield that drove in two RBI.
Tegan Streit, running for Halsie Barnes, was able to beat the tag at home when Lambert was thrown out at first on her at-bat.
The Raiderettes now led 9-1.
Mount Ayr went on to score two more runs in the bottom of the sixth after Abigal Barnes hit a two run homer to end the game on the 10-run rule after six.
“Struggled a little bit early with the Bond girl, she was throwing a left hand hook she likes to throw and we were reaching for it,” said Ruggles. “Second or third inning she started to lose control of that and we were crushing it, Caroline’s home run really pushed it over and Abigial after that was great.”
