Raiders narrowly escape West Central Valley

The Raiders played last Tuesday in a doubleheader that saw the boys defeat Orient-Macksburg and Southwest Valley to finish third in the Pride of Iowa, behind Martensdale-St. Mary’s and Southeast Warren.
The Raiders then traveled to Panora to face West Central Valley in a contest that went the distance and then some to advance to the next round of Districts against Van Meter.

The Raiders defeated Orient-Macksburg 12-0 after five innings, with a big six-run inning in the fourth to tack on another win.
The Raiders saw home runs by Keelan Klommhaus and Isaac Grose, with Klommhaus recording two RBI while Grose recorded three.
Dawson Swank struck out three batters and allowed three hits in his five innings on the mound.

In their final game of the regular season, the Raiders defeated Southwest Valley 6-3, to take the third spot in the POI alone.
The Raiders were ahead 3-0 in the third before the Timberwolves made a comeback to tie the game in the fifth with both teams sitting at three runs.
Pitcher Isaac Grose looked to be worn thin and Briar Knapp came in to relieve him, after Grose pitched four innings and struck out six batters, but allowed three runs.
Knapp received the win on the mound after pitching three innings and allowing one hit and striking out five batters.
The Raiders had nine hits in the 28 at-bats and saw Isaac Grose with a double and two RBI to help the Raiders take the win.

In the first round of District play, the Raiders faced West Central Valley on the road in Panora.
West Central Valley scored early, putting up two runs in the first, before the Raiders answered back with three of their own.
By the end of the fourth, the Raiders led 5-2.
The lead didn’t last long after West Central Valley tied the game in the sixth.
The teams went back and forth with West Central Valley scoring the lead run in the top of the ninth.
The Raiders stayed alive after Isaac Grose was walked and then a ground out and strikeout put the Raiders in perilous waters.
Cayden Lambert was able to get a base hit and Grose scored on a passed ball that tied the game.
West Central Valley was unable to score in the top of the 10th. The Raiders took to the plate and saw Austin Greenland find his way to third. Kolben Klommhaus took his place at the plate and knocked one over the centerfielders head to score Greenland and end the game by a score of 8-7.
The Raiders played Van Meter on Tuesday, but the game had not yet been played in time for press.
