With a defeat over Beckman Catholic on Monday, the Raiderettes were given a day off as they prepared to face North Linn on Wednesday.
The North Linn Lynx proved to be a tough team to beat after crushing the Mount Ayr title hope with an 8-1 win over the Raiderettes, however, the Lynx would go on to win the state title on Thursday.
“I’m not going to take anything away from that team,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “They are ranked number one in the state for a reason. They have been ranked there since the beginning of the season and they showed it today.”
North Linn is led by Abby Flanagan, who returns next year as a senior.
The game was a no-hitter until the fourth inning, when North Linn found four runs to shake the Raiderette foundation.
“Hats off to that team,” said coach Ruggles. “They hit the ball real hard and put us in pressure situations.”
The Raiderettes were staring at a no-hitter shutout heading into the top of the seventh, a feat that hadn’t been achieved against the Raiderettes yet this season.
Caroline McAlexander, made sure it didn’t with a nice hit that pushed in the only Mount Ayr run.
