The Raiderettes kicked off their season in Bedford last week in a triangular against the Bedford Bulldogs and the Central Decatur Cardinals.
The Raiderettes came up short against Bedford, despite leading by 10 points in some sets, to take their first loss of the season.
“Many times we were up by almost 10 points and just kept falling apart at the seams,” said coach Tori Braby. “I do feel confident moving on from that game, as it was easy to see what areas we need to work on to improve. Lots of silly, silly mistakes.”
The girls showed promise serving however, missing 10 serves against the Bulldogs and collecting eight aces on the night.
Jaycee Knight stayed busy with a serve of 9-10 and one ace along with three digs and a team high 12 assists.
Maddie Stewart, now with a year under her belt, looked to be more confident in the libero position, snagging five digs, two aces and having a 16-17 serve success.
Channler Henle led the team in digs with 10, while also recording five kills against the Bulldogs, while Sam Stewart led the team in kills with six.
The girls made Bedford earn every win, taking the lead early and often. The Bulldogs would then get into a ryhthm and rattle the Raiderette cages to take close wins.

The Raiderettes were all warmed up when Central Decatur hit the floor.
The Raiderettes came out on top in the beginning, this time communicating on the floor which proved to be successful as they took a first win over the Cardinals by a score of 25-14.
Set two was slightly closer as the Cardinal girls had witnessed some action.
The Raiderettes would come out on top for their first win of the year by a score of 25-20. The Raiderettes won the second set from the serving line, with three servers perfect.
Gracie Mobley led the charge with 11-of-11 serves over the net and three aces, Sam Stewart went eight-for-eight with two aces and Tegan Streit was four-for-four.
Channler Henle led the team in kills with five to stay busy at the net.
“We came out and communicated and worked together to get the win over CD,” said coach Braby. “I told the kids between the game that the only thing we can do is improve and that is what we came out and did. Channler Henle was on top of her game tonight at the net. She led us with five kills to get the win.”
The Raiderettes will be home for their next game, tonight, Thursday, September 5, and will face an Essex team that the Raiderettes won 3-0 against one year ago.
