MARY LOU PENNEBAKER
Mary Lou (Bryson) Hymbaugh Pennebaker, of Mount Ayr, IA, passed away on October 18, 2019 at Clearview Nursing Home.
Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents Mabel and James Bryson; grandparents; husband, George Roland “Doc” Pennebaker; son-in-law, Kent R. Lowman; and step-son, Dr. Gary Pennebaker.
She is survived by her children James (Deb) Hymbaugh of Creston, IA, Douglas (Sherri) Hymbaugh of Brownton, MN, Terry (Ron) Burton of Douglas, WY, Nancy Fox of Cedar Rapids, IA, Julie (Bob Erickson) Lowman of Boone, IA, Penny Hymbaugh of Mount Ayr, IA, Lynda (Mark) Triggs of Mount Ayr, IA, and Ray (Christina) Hymbaugh of Cameron, NC; step-daughters, Glennda Adair of Laguna Woods, CA and Gayla (Darren) Buckman of Plano, TX; step-daughter-in-law, Laurel Pennebaker of Chandler, AZ; 25 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Mary Lou was born in Osage City, KS, on December 8, 1929, to James Earl and Mabel (Dorr) Bryson. She attended country school for grades one thru eight, graduated from Lyndon Kansas High School in 1947 and from Clarks Business School in Topeka, KS, in 1948. She was employed by Insurance Companies of North America and moved from Kansas to Iowa before settling in Mount Ayr, IA in 1965. Mary Lou stayed home raising her children and later worked at the Ringgold County Hospital and Mount Ayr Health Care Center.
Mary Lou was united in marriage to Wesley Hymbaugh on November 10, 1951. The two of them had eight children; three boys and five girls.
She moved to Creston, IA, when she married Dr. George Roland “Doc” Pennebaker in April 1985, where they lived until 2013 when the two moved to the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr.
Mary Lou was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed her winters in McAllen, TX with her husband and cats. Mary Lou loved to travel and cook and earlier in life was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Creston, as well as a Red Hatter. Mary Lou will be dearly missed by her friends, family and all who knew her.
Service were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, IA.
Officiating was Rev Jim Morris.
Musicians were Nancy Sackett the pianist and Grace Warin the vocalist.
Songs were “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagle’s Wings”.
Honorary casket bearers were Michael Hymbaugh, Jeremy Pritchett, Adam Triggs, Matthew Hymbaugh, Ethan Lowman, Sheldon Triggs, Mark Hymbaugh, Wade Fox, Shane Triggs, David Hymbaugh and Bryson Triggs.
Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr, IA.
Memorial fund is to the First United Methodist Church in Creston, IA.
