Mount Ayr harriers perform well at Pride of Iowa meet

The Mount Ayr cross country teams performed well despite the bitter wind last week at the Pride of Iowa cross country meet in Wayne.
The Raiders placed third overall, just behind Central Decatur and the first place Nodaway Valley Wolverines.
Mount Ayr’s Isaac Timmerman finished the course in a time of 17:44 which placed him fifth overall, while Levi Henry and Briar Knapp both medaled after finishing side-by-side almost with times of 18:53 and 18:54 for 13th and 14th places, respectively.
Will Newton came in at 27th in a time of 20:34 and Joan Trujillo finished in a time of 22:32, placing 43rd.
Ryker Hickman and Jarrett Webb rounded out the team with times of 23:23 and 23:51.
The Raiderettes finished second overall with MaKayla Jones finishing 4th in a time of 22:44.
Natalie Schaefer and Karlie Larsen also medaled for the Raiderettes, finihing 14th and 16th in times of 24:12 and 24:20.
Olivia West finished in a time of 25:24 and Rachel Gregg completed the course in a time of 25:55, while Elizabeth Sobotka was done in 27:08 to round out the team.
MaKenna Jones started the race, but was unable to finish due to reaggrivating an injury. Jones recently set a school record for her time on the course in Greenfield and looks to compete Thursday, October 24 during the State Qualifying meet in Mount Ayr.
Ron Landphair Invitational
The Ron Landphair Invitational was held at the Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club last Thursday.
The course looked slightly different than past years, this time taking runners to the driving range and around, instead of passed the pond and over the ditch with rocks, which in past years tripped up runners.
In the varsity girls division, the Raiderettes had three medalists.
MaKayla Jones, (23:04.81) Karlie Larsen (23:51.76) and Natalie Schaefer (24:00.27). They finished 7th, 16th and 19th respectively. The fourth runner for Mount Ayr, Taylor Clymer finished 22nd, just out of the medalist range, with a time of 24:16.61.
The girls team finished third overall behind Nodaway Valley and Maryville.
Also running for Mount Ayr was Rachel Gregg with a time of 25:46.42, Lauren Triggs with a time of 27:01.06, Alexa Smith in 28:09.64, Ashytyn Werner with a time of 29:17.28 and Andrea Sickels with a time of 29:21.28.
For the Raiders, Isaac Timmerman (17:44.14) finished seventh overall while Levi Henry (18:56.14) took 19th, both medaling for Mount Ayr.
The Raiders finished 4th overall with Maryville finishing first. Nodaway Valley and Savannah rounded out the top three.
Also running for Mount Ayr was Briar Knapp (19:10.69), Will Newton (20:42.49), Joan Trujillo (21:43.15), and Jarrett Webb (22:06.01).
