WILMA MARIE CLAYTON TERWILLIGER

Wilma Marie Clayton, daughter of Fred Clayton and Esther Clayton was born April 27, 1935 and passed from this life November 27, 2019. Wilma was born in a farmhouse in Ellston, IA and lived most of her adult life on a farm just outside of Mount Ayr, IA in Ringgold County. She attended school in Beaconsfield, IA. Wilma married Lee S. Terwilliger on October 10, 1953, in Bethany, MO. After marriage, Wilma worked at a state care center outside of Mount Ayr. Shortly thereafter, Lee and Wilma became the parents of two children, a daughter, Mary Lee and a son, Freddie Lee. At this point, Wilma decided to stay home, raise her children and tend to the homestead.
Wilma loved people, especially children. Her friends were family, and anyone was welcome at her home. Wilma was a connector of people. She was often on the phone, or at her friend’s houses, engaging in conversation, laughing and enjoying the presence of others. When you came into her life, you couldn’t leave without a full belly and filled with love.
Wilma spent most of her time on the homestead where she enjoyed cooking, baking, tending to the animals, fishing, canning and making sure her rose bushes and other flowers were in perfect condition. She also enjoyed working in her garden and playing with the animals: Skipper, Snowball, Blossom, Sweet Pea, etc.
Wilma also enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo, and dancing. Wilma and Lee were frequent visitors to dances at Mount Ayr and Tingley. However, much of their dancing happened on the living room floor next to the record player console.
Wilma continued her love of conversation up until her very last days. No matter who you were, or where you were from, Wilma would talk with you about anything – she loved being in the company of others.
