To the editor:
According to the FBI, 2017 saw an uptick of total hate crimes, 7,175 incidents a 17 per cent increase from 2016. Most of these incidents or crimes were perpetuated by white males who feel threatened by migrants, Jews and other non white minorities.
Many Americans thought that racism, hatred and bigotry had ended with the 2008 election, but we were wrong. It has always been here and since 2016 it has crawled out from under the rock that it had been hiding.
White nationalists or white supremacists no longer wear masks and robes that conceal their identity, we saw that at Charlottesville. There we saw the torch light parade of the neo Nazis and their white supremacist brethren marching and shouting “Jews will not replace us.”
Anti-Semitism is on the rise, the most recent attack occurred during a Hanukkah celebration Sunday in New York state. Governor Andrew Cuomo called the attack an “act of domestic terrorism.” Indeed since 2017, “America is beset by a wave of white supremacist terrorism.” “Violence gives the New Right or Alt Right meaning across Europe, the United States and other parts of the world this fascist movement. [we thought we had killed it with the defeat of the Fascist dictators in World War II], has taken control of Presidencies, Parliaments and governments.”
This New Right movement, whites only, seeks to enforce its will against multiracial and multi ethnic democracy in the name of “populism” and “nationalism.” The opening salvo in this campaign for a “white only,” anti immigrant, anti minority America was fired June 16, 2015, a presidential bid announcement speech by Donald J. Trump who stated immigrants from Mexico are “people with lots of problems and they are bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume are good people.”
Then he promised, “to build a great wall and nobody builds walls better than me. . . .” Sorry Donald, wrong again, I believe the Chinese did that over 3,000 years ago–just saying. And, of course, he had to add a big lie by adding, “and I will have Mexico pay for that wall.” Open your eyes people, American tax payers will be paying for his vanity wall which will be yet another structure he can put the Trump name on.
