The Raiderettes stunned the Van Meter Bulldogs last Tuesday night.
Mount Ayr came out hot, scoring 20 points in the first quarter and allowing Van Meter only seven.
“Our girls are playing at a high level right now and they are fun to watch,” said coach Thad Streit. “You look at some of Van Meter’s scores and they had some close games with good teams and we had a running clock last night. That is a credit to our girls effort.”
By the end of the night, the Raiderettes had the bench in and the game won, 62-24.
Sam Stewart led the team with 34 points and became the All-Time leading scorer in Mount Ayr 5-on-5 history, breaking the old record of 1,237 points held by Kelcie Shields.
“It feels unbelievable,” said Stewart. “I couldn’t have done it without my teams.”
Stewart’s record may stand for some time with quite a few games left on the schedule.
“I hope it’s still there,” said Stewart on the idea of seeing the record in the future. “Though it would be really cool to see other Raiderettes beat it.”
Along with the scoring record and leading in points, Stewart also had six steals and six assists with five rebounds. Jaycee Knight was busy throughout the contest as well, scoring four points on two-of-three attempts while also snagging six rebounds and recording five assists on the night.

The Raiderettes hosted the East Union Eagles to close out last week.
The Raiderettes finished the week on a high note, defeating the Eagles 69-34 to extend their win streak to eight games.
“I thought our girls started well and then played with a comfortable lead the rest of the night,” said coach Streit. “We are playing unselfish right now and that is good for the whole team concept.”
Sam Stewart once again led the team in points, with 22, while having six steals and four assists to lead the team with Channler Henle who also had four assists along with three steals and five rebounds.
Rachel Sobotka scored 11 points, going four-for-five with seven rebounds and three assists.
The Raiderettes tallied only three fouls on the night, in what would be a clean game.
“The regular season is winding down and we need to stay sharp for regionals,” said Streit.
The Raiderettes traveled to Clarinda on Monday night to face the 1-16 Cardinals.
