DARLENE IRVING
Darlene Irving, daughter of Truman and Lola (Greenrod) Dulany, was born April 30, 1928 at Mount Ayr, IA. Darlene grew up and lived her life in and around Mount Ayr. She was active in school and enjoyed being a cheerleader.
On December 27, 1945, Darlene was united in marriage to David J. Irving in Troy, KS. They made their home at Mount Ayr where Darlene loved being a stay at home mother raising the four children born to her and Dave: Pat, Tim, Vicki and Jean.
In 1966, Darlene opened the Women’s Department of Irving Clothing. She loved being a clothier and helping outfit the ladies of the community. Darlene and Dave retired from the clothing business in 1990. Darlene was a member of the Business and Professional Women and was chosen to be in the Who’s Who of American Women in 1984. Darlene was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Grey Ladies Auxiliary at the Ringgold County Hospital, bowling league and the Choral Club which would later become the Ringgold Singers. Her faith was important to her and she was a member of the United Methodist Church throughout her adult life. Darlene most loved and enjoyed being with her family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her much joy and happiness. She loved having them together so that she could cook for them as they all visited and spent time together.
Darlene was able to maintain her own home until she became a resident of Clearview Home on April 14, 2020. Darlene passed away at Clearview Home on April 27, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dave on January 8, 2014; daughter-in-law, Nancy Irving and her siblings Junior Dulany, Lyle Dulany, Dorothy Stull and Jerry Dulany.
Survivors include her children Pat (Ame) Irving of Davenport, IA, Tim Irving of Mount Ayr, IA, Vicki Westerly of Indianola, IA and Jean (Dick) Sulentic of Truro, IA; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy (Celeste) Irving, Colby (Jeanetta) Irving, Marissa (Danny) Antle, Dirk (Tiffany) Westerly, Blair (Kara) Westerly, Breck (Megan) Westerly, Dane (Kailyn) Sulentic, Kellen (Caitlin) Sulentic, Madeline Sulentic, Olivia Sulentic, Ashley (Tim) Harles; 17 great grandchildren, Rileigh Antle, Brycen Antle, Ella Irving, Millie Irving, Ada Westerly, Graham Westerly, Declan Westerly, Landry Westerly, Callie Westerly, Wyatt Westerly, Arianna Harles, Jordyn Harles, Makennah Harles, Brody Harles, Landon Sulentic, Emilia Sulentic, and Addison Sulentic; Edna Jones of Mount Ayr; numerous nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.
Immediate family only services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2020 at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, IA.
Officiating was Rev. Emily Peasley.
Special songs were “The Old Rugged Cross”, “How Great Thou Art” and “You Are Mine”.
Casketbearers were Jeremy Irving, Colby Irving, Dirk Westerly, Blair Westerly, Breck Westerly, Dane Sulentic and Kellen Sulentic.
Honorary casketbearers were Marissa Antle, Madeline Sulentic, Olivisivia Sulentic and Ashley Harles.
Darlene was laid to rest at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr, IA.
Memorials are to the Alzheimer’s Association and United Methodist Church in Mount Ayr.
