STEVEN CRAIG JOHNSTON
Steven Craig Johnston, 72, of Urbandale, IA was born February 19, 1948 in Mount Ayr, IA to Rupert and DonNell Johnston. He passed away at his residence on Thursday, June 18, 2020.
Steve graduated from Mount Ayr Community High School in 1966.
After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Following his enlistment in the Navy, he attended barber school. Once he completed barber school, he pursued a life-long career of cutting hair. Being a barber to Steve was more than cutting hair, he enjoyed developing relationships with his long-term clients and putting smiles on their faces.
Steve was united in marriage to Mary Livingston in 1984. To this union, a son, Ross Mitchell was born in October 1990. He and Mary were married 23 years.
He enjoyed attending his son, Ross’s athletic events.
He then married Deborah Slagle, they were married for nine years.
In Steve’s free time, he enjoyed cruising around in his white corvette.
Steve is survived by his son, Ross Mitchell of Des Moines; sister, Kay Faris of Mount Ayr; nieces, Debbie Klommhaus of Mount Ayr, DiAnna (Jeff) Taylor of Altoona and DeAnna Pennings of Sioux City; and great-nieces, Kylee Klommhaus, Taylor Pennings and Alaina Brincks.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, DonNell Boyd, Rupert Johnston and Russell Boyd; grandparents, Herbert and Pearl Johnston, Solomon and Nettie Combs, and great-nephew, Konner Klommhaus.
He will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter, IA at a future date. No services are scheduled.
